The interesting thing will be if they can outsell them in the holiday season with both new PS4 units in the market.

quote:

EA estimated Microsoft had sold 19 million Xbox Ones back in January. Nvidia recently estimated that Microsoft has reached 29 million Xbox One sales, compared to an estimate of 52 million for PS4. Sony revealed in May that it had sold more than 40 million PS4s.

What does this mean? This is good for everyone no matter what console you own. Competition makes them both better. Sony still has a big lead but the more Microsoft can close the gap the better.

I've been a loyal PS fan for over a decade, but my ps4 basically collects dust.

I was excited about the opportunity to buy the new version, assuming it would have a 4k player, but they fricked that up.

For the first time ever, i am considering trading in my ps4 and getting the new xbox when it comes out.

Possibly, but this started before the PS4 Pro announcement. This actually started with the Xbox One S which people said would tank announcing next to scorpio

Probably just like how PS3 started outselling Xbox near the end of last gen, people who have owned Sony's console for awhile are now buying the Xbox console, in particularly at this point because of the new Xbox One S model with 4K Blu Ray, HDR, and expanded hard drive space. If they're buying Xbox now, who knows if they will pick up Scorpio in 2017.

Microsoft also usually has better free games on Games with Gold as well as nice perks like mod support for Bethesda titles and EA access which are helping too I think.

Sony won the war of public image back in 2013, but their practices since then have been very anti-consumer as opposed to Xbox. I do think the situation would be the same if the roles were reversed though.

I think this has a lot to do with it. For years console sales have been pretty one sided switching between different people.

All of this!

That is where I currently stand. Even my wife who doesn't care about gaming was surprised to hear me talk about switching. I was planning on trading in my 4 for the Pro, but now I will probably keep it and just buy a S.

I bet a large portion of the spike is due to the dropping of the price of the old model than of consumers purchasing the S. maybe I'm wrong but I dont see the point in upgrading or purchasing an S with Scorpio a year away.

Scorpio is meant for 4k so if you have 1080 it makes sense

then why are people doing it?

an educated guess would be they want in on what the S has to offer right now and ~$300 isn't that much. plus they'll be able to trade it in on a Scorpio if they so choose

I bought an S for the 4K player, and that alone. No desire to play games on it.

The cheapest standalone 4K player is more expensive than the S.
