Xbox 360 'open tray error'

Anybody here have this error and know of a way to fix it? Basically its acting as if no disc is there no matter what. Saw a few YouTube videos but the fixes seem to vary widely and I dont want to make it worse.

Had this happen to me. Only fix I could find was sending it into Microsoft unfortunately. On the somewhat bright side, it wasn't that expensive and it was back in a month.

So can I buy a replacement DVD drive and just plug it in and everything will work normally?
I took the xbox apart and checked the drive but I couldn't see anything wrong. Put it back together and its running fine but still won't read or see any discs.
So is there anything more to replacing the drive than ordering the same one and plugging it in?

I have the same issue, but I feel like spending anything on the 360 is a waste at this point unless it's <$50
