I still miss that game. Outside of SWG (pre NGE) it was the best MMO ever in my opinion

PvP in CoH.. Best in any MMO.

Might have asked but what server and your global?

@Trace and @Trace II on Freedom, Guardian and Virtue.

Edt: but don't want to derail a WoW expansion thread.

I had 3 accounts, 2 paid and all full with 50s no doubt. Did you stay on Blue or Red side? Once CoV launched I pretty much stayed Red.

Incarnates, they broke PvP even more but how fun are those trails/raids?

Trace the Toxins Dark/Poison Corr
Trace Emissions Fire/Rad Corr

Those are my most played toons over the remaining months of CoX. Notice because of the Single Target attack chains, like I said, PvP mostly.

50 Dark / Regen Scrapper

Dark/Regen was awesome for 1v1 Melee.

How about Mids? I spent more time in this than the game some days.

50 Archery / Mind Blaster

Many Other non 50s deleted and re rolled

BC > LC > panda > cata
Didn't really play new expansion. I will never forget the adrenaline rush of pvp while lvling up. That's what made the game fun for me.

In an attempt to cater to the masses they dumb down the game... oh well, I graduated college and got married so I guess I'm a winner!

WotLK imo. But I wasn't around for BC. Cataclysm was almost a year old when I started. WotLK also added my favorite music for a zone, Grizzly Hills.

I last played a few years sgo when they offered the 30 days free of Mists. Stopped playing 3 weeks in. I somewhat enjoyed it, but it wasn't fun trying to push to those next 5 levels.

Players were still little shits too. Had a dude start messaging me like crazy because I put the same rare material in the auction as house as he had, for 5G less than he was asking. Apparently basic economics was too hard for him.

I'd argue they simplified the game for the players like you who have more responsibilities IRL now than the days of vanilla-wrath. The game is still a lot of fun. I just started on this patch after a long break on Sargeras/Alliance if anyone still plays.

ETA: it will never live up to the nostalgia that players from before Cata have of it but it is still the biggest MMO around for a reason, they are doing it right.

BC was my first taste at raiding and it was awesome. I absolutely loved karazhan even if I did it 1000 times. SSC was probably my least favorite of that expansion oh and hyjal trash. Ulduar though man... That place was beautiful. Wotlk was my favorite

In my opinion, TBC was the best.

Everyone typically has Vanilla high on their list, and deservedly so, but a lot of that is just pure nostalgia. If you go back and play on a private server it's kind of a pain in the arse.

Vanilla, I was never great at the game, I saw a fair bit of raiding, but mostly focused on PvP and got rank 10/14 as a young teenager.

TBC came around and I became a hardcore raider. To me, nothing will ever hold a candle to Karazhan, SSC, TK, BT and the Sunwell. But then again, in late WOTLK / Cataclysm I started focusing back on PvP, and had limited exposure to hardcore raiding after that.

If I had to rank them...

TBC
WOTLK
Vanilla
Cataclysm
MoP
WoD

I'd have WoD higher than MoP, but garrisons sucked and they have absolutely ruined PvP.

The gutting of professions and classes in WoD has made it pretty miserable.

I only started playing at the end of Lich King so hard for me to say.

But I just started playing again for the first time last week since WoD, and I already hate garrisons. I feel like I'm playing clash of clans half the time I'm logged into WoW. They also kind of fricked up arms warrior, my favorite spec and class. No rage generating abilities is dumb.

Arms warrior use to be my favorite spec because all the stance dancing required to be great at it but, now it's just plain boring.

TBC was my favorite, but WotLK was the best expansion for growth and the direction Blizzard should have continued. They made WotLK, reached the pinnacle of success, then they decided to take the game in an entirely different direction with Cataclysm and the game never really recovered from it in terms of player population.

Cataclysm was when they started fricking with talent trees and streamlining/homogenizing classes.

I hate class design in WoW now. Each class used to have several fun specs that felt so different from each other, but now every spec for every class has this super obvious rotation and leveling up isn't interesting at all due to the removal of spells and talent trees.

And I've seen all the arguments for how the old talent trees in WoW were bad design, and I completely disagree. Giving the player a way increase the power of their character rather than the game automatically doing it for you is part of video game development psychology that Blizzard ignores in all of their games and is a big reason why they aren't as addictive anymore.

The lich king daily quests sucked.

And

Naxxaramus already existed in vanilla. They just dumbed it down for the casuals.

While this was a good move, since 99% of players never saw nax in vanilla, I wouldn't put it on top of tbc due to the content being "old"

The solo questing was nice

True but Ulduar was definitely one of the best raiding experiences in an MMO. I loved the way the introduced hard mode.
quote:

Yogg-Saron
There are four different hard modes for Yogg-Saron. The normal mode involves using the assistance of the four keepers - Freya, Hodir, Mimiron, and Thorim. The hard modes involve using the assistance of fewer Keepers. The reward is improved loot (assumed) and four achievements depending on which difficulty you engage him on. The achievements are: Money achievement Three Lights in the Darkness (10 player)/Money achievement 25 (use three or fewer Keepers), Money achievement Two Lights in the Darkness (10 player)/Money achievement 25 (use two or fewer Keepers), Money achievement One Light in the Darkness (10 player)/Money achievement 25 (use one or fewer Keepers), and Money achievement Alone in the Darkness (10 player)/Money achievement 25 (do not accept the help of any Keepers).

My guild never came close to defeating Yogg-Saron without any of the keepers help.

Eh, having responsibilities in real life doesn't mean the game needs to be dumbed down.

They made some positive changes over the years such as making raids smaller from 40 people, which definitely helps people that have a busy real life. Reducing the amount of skills on my bar, making buffs between classes identical with different names, removing any semblance of customization because Blizzard doesn't feel like balancing the game and because they want to appeal to the lowest common denominator, that's stuff that makes a game unappealing to me no matter how much time I have on my hands.
