I would call it an action/adventure game. You control John. I wouldn't say you become John. Not naturally anyway

Oh I agree! RDR is an amazing game. I can't watch Deadwood or any random Western and not start a new game. It's just not what I consider an RPG.

You have to learn how to play it and learn how each enemy works to proceed. Even the lowliest enemy will kick your arse if you run in blind swinging a sword. They will gang up on you quick

IDK. I felt pretty immersed in that character and I don't usually get in to games like that. I felt more like John and Jack from Bioshock than I did with any character in Skyrim/Dark Souls et al

I was immersed as well. Goddamn if Rockstar didn't make amazing game. frick it. RDR can be an RPG! I can't wait for the sequel.

Day one purchase for me. Rockstar knows how to do it man. I would like to see them attempt a different genre. GTA is present day criminal. RDR is Old West outlaw. I'm trying to think of another genre they could make a great game for. I'm blanking right now

All this chatter has me firing up Dark Souls.
You should most definitely play it if you want a good RPG with a degree of real difficulty. You have to search for the story b/c it isn't spoon fed to you and you may want to watch youtube vids b/c honestly, the story is left up to interpretation at points. Not a ton of NPC interaction but enough so that you don't feel totally alone in the fight against evil
I'm sure it can be had for cheap. $10-$15 maybe

Genre lines blur more and more all the time. I have just never heard anyone refer to bioshock as an rpg. I see what you mean though.

Either way, great game that shouldn't go unplayed
Also, it's doesn't take 100 hours, which I like. It's pretty linear but the story is just awesome, it's fun to play and I never lost interest or got bored at any point in the game

Whatever really. I don't discriminate. Just finished State of Decay. Bouncing between Skyrim, Half Life 2 and a few arcade titles. Trying to access the Dark Souls DLC but the game doesn't exactly lay it out for you. I'll jump on COD or BF if I have people to play with. Downloaded Portal 2 the other day for coop with a buddy...pretty much anything

Oh, hows Ghost didn't get it was to wrapped up playing crew on 2k with my friends, then i started Dead island beat them both.
