It's not by any means a "great" game, but it's really, really fun.

I don’t mind exploration/collection games.

Been having a decent time so far and have only just gotten to Hogsmeade.

Greatwood and Crystal Sage down. Cathedral of the Deep in the hopper for if/when I find some time this week.

Thought about swiping Emma and taking a shot at her early, but reminded myself that I had just fricking started a new Souls game and I shouldn't let my hubris get the best of me

Abyss Watchers down, halfway through the catacombs.

For my DS3 vets: I'm finding the boss fights to be unique and interesting, but not terribly difficult. Am I just oddly in the zone, do I have some crazy difficulty spike coming, or are DS3 bosses just not particularly hard?

Yes

Abyss watchers are a decent challenge but not on the level really

Dancer, twin princes, nameless king, Aldrich, sully, DLC bosses… you have a long way to go

Champion gundyr too.

I was hoping a ramp up was coming. I had just found it odd that I died to Iudex (coming directly from DS2 took some muscle memory rewiring...) more times than I've died to every boss subsequent, combined. Just felt weird.

Bosses have been very cool, though.

Just hit my first wall, and it’s not even a fricking boss

I flat out can’t keep up with Sir Vilhelm. I just can’t damage him fast enough to keep him from using his OP healing miracle with crazy hyper armor and infinite poise. Hell, even successful parries are chewing up a quarter of my HP with his dark sword.

Annoying, but oh well. Back to the catacombs.

ETA: My stubborn arse decided I hadn't tried enough things to stop his healing. Tried kicking him out of it, double stroke combo with a two handed claymore, and claymore stance attack.

Nothing I do can break his poise during that miracle.

So now actually back to the catacombs. But tomorrow, because frick this game for tonight

Eta2: A backstab will allegedly get him out of his heal animation. God damn it… might try again tomorrow…

Alright, in the off chance someone comes behind me and would find this useful:

1. Backstabs do, in fact, break his poise during his healing miracle.
2. You have to be extremely fast to pull it off, as it’s possible to pull off the backstab and still be too late to interrupt the miracle.
3. He will, eventually, run out of whatever his equivalent of FP is. Not only did he stop healing after… four, maybe five? attempts, but he also stopped using Vow of Silence (I kept a chime equipped in my left hand to keep gentle prayer running to give some background healing as well as to bait Vow for extra backstabs).

Easily the most difficult non-boss NPC I’ve fought thus far in the Dark Souls game, but harder than, at minimum, 90% of the bosses I’ve fought. Mad respect, you crazy, gravely voiced bastard.

He’s also part of DLC content , that you are likely under leveled for.

Good job, though

I know, but while I was under leveled (SL in the low to mid 50’s during the process), I wasn’t absurdly under leveled, and I had diligently upgraded my claymore to +6. And in each Souls game, I tend to pick a git gud spot and just hurl myself at it until it breaks. Just wasn’t sure this could be that point because if that fricking heal mechanic

I tried playing the DLC for 2 and 3 about a year ago when I played those games for the first (and only) time and gave up on each after about an hour. Nevermind bosses, I couldn’t get through the areas
