US Government looking to impose restriction on Xbox One Kinect Sensor

Looks like the government wants to know more about what the Kinect sensor and other electronic devices that have cameras are doing with that information. This could be big if it causes delays to the Xbone launch

I wonder how deep the gubment will dig into the One with all this crap about the NSA leaks, etc.

That doesn't seem very likely.

That is stupid. You can turn the thing off.
Are they going to put warning labels on every single laptop with a webcam or every single cell phone ?

Yup. Just like the label on cigarettes.

I haven't kept up with the new systems, but I thought you had to leave the kinect on in order for the Xbox to operate?

Plugged in. Not necessarily on.

The system will navigate you through key privacy options, like automatic or manual sign in, privacy settings, and clear notifications about how data is used. When Xbox One is on and you're simply having a conversation in your living room, your conversation is not being recorded or uploaded."

Although I think this whole spying this is WAY overblown, IMO I don't think it matters to them if you can turn it on or off. I think it matters to them where the info is going when it is on.
With that tho, it is your choice to turn it on, so as long as MS has some sort of agreement you enter into when you buy the console or turn on the Kinect, there should be nothing the gubment can do.

first thing i'm doing when I unbox my Xbone is whip my dick out, mumble some Middle Eastern jibberish, and praise Alah while drinking a fifth of bourbon.

I still lol that Micrsoft had to break up a porn ring on Uno Arcade. People were using the Xbox camera or Kinect coupled with the games camera feature like it was chat roulette/adult friend finder and hosting e-masturbation sessions through it.

That wasn't what it was originally, and the government investigating it makes it all the more baffling to me why they ever thought that making it on at all times was a good idea. I can't think of anyone that would want that feature. Honestly, it is probably the worst idea in gaming history, even if they've pulled back on it.

It was so funny because someone was playing Uno a lot on Brokes Xbox when it went down.

What do you think is going to happen with Skype on there ?

Yes it was. It's always had the option to be disabled since MS announced the console.

They said repeatedly during the reveal and leading up to E3 that the Kinect sensor could be turned off. Most people apparantly didn't hear that or didn't want to hear that.
I think that nothing will come out of this, just a couple of politicians looking for some "street cred" with their voters....apparantly they are gamers too?
