Nintendo just announced that the Nintendo NX will be out in March 2017. That release window is global.

Via a financial release, Nintendo states, “For our dedicated video game platform business, Nintendo is currently developing a gaming platform codenamed ‘NX’ with a brand-new concept. NX will be launched in March 2017 globally.”

This is a good thing if it's made for a NX. We don't want another TP GC/Wii BS.

Looking forward to getting some hardware specs, and I hope to God that the default controller is something more traditional.

This. And the timeframe makes sense now, that makes a 4.5 year generation for Nintendo. I was hating the idea of less than 4 year generations....especially with the Nero and new Xbox working on killing the current pacing.

Didn't buy the wii.

Didn't buy the wii u.

Won't buy this.

I like Zelda and Mario as much as the next guy, but not enough to buy a console exclusively for them. The gimmicks with each console get a little old. Innovation is great, but it seems like none of their novel ideas get much traction and it scares away mainstream developers.

The Wii U might be the most worthless gaming console I've ever bought, and that includes purchasing a Dreamcast.

Why should I believe Nintendo will actually release games for this new console? We know third-party game support will likely be minimal port efforts.

- So, what are the features and specs for the NX since you've educated yourself enough to make a decision on it? Also, I would say the Wii got a little traction since it's 3rd highest selling console ever (over 100 million). Wii U was definitely a bust with the market, but had some great games.

That's a bit far. Between Smash, Splatoon, Kart, Maker, SM3DW, Tropical Freeze (probably too hard of a game for the modern gamer), Pikmin 3, wonderful 101, it had some of the best and most unique exclusives this gen. If you can't have fun with at least half of those games, I don't know what to tell you.

And how many of those wiis that were sold turned out to be used exclusively for wii bowling?

I'm using the past and my experiences with their recent consoles as a barometer. If I'm wrong about this one, I'll happily eat crow. As it stands, Nintendo doesn't produce first party content at a rate to attract me to their consoles and they have minimal third party support.

What a dumb statement.

I feel that way towards my PS4, which gets 0 action. If i'm playing a console it is the Wii U. They actually have a great library of games.

Naaaa. The innovation would be fine if the specs were more closely aligned. THAT'S what drives away the third parties. They'd have to develop the same games twice, so their reaction is totally understandable.

However, third parties can also be extremely idiotic. See the Wii and Madden Wii for example. I purchased Madden every year for my Nintendo System from the beginning (N64 days), and nearly every year.

But instead of making a Madden game, they make weird kid-Madden? Instead of developing a game that actually took advantage of the Wii, they just removed the complexity out of Madden, slapped on Wii controls and voila - Madden Wii. It was an abysmal failure for that very reason.

EA changed the formula that made Madden popular, sold even less Madden's than they had before, then blamed Nintendo.

On the flip side, gamers are dumb too, staying with the sports theme....Pro Evolution Soccer for the Wii is still one of the most interesting sports games I've ever played, but yeah no one played it. The motion controls added a ton to that game, and it became more of a strategy game. It was fantastic and unique. But didn't sell squat. They didn't change anything, and offered classic controls, but the Wiimote controls were stellar. Running with a player and using the remote to drag runs for my other players, it was a sublime setup that will never be recaptured again. It made tactical play extremely interesting.

The problem is, Nintendo often outdesigns itself, 3rd Party Developers, and Gamers, while leaving 3rd Parties on an island and gamers without really good marketing. It's a bad mix. Nintendo thinks everyone is going to "get it," and that just isn't the case.
