I'm gonna pick up hitman 2 during the sale. Contracts is not available for download anywhere apparently because of a copyright issue with 1 song.

That's pretty lame. I'm sure you could pirate it somewhere if you really wanted to play it.

You just start up Garry's Mod and look in the multiplayer menus for game types you want to play. They are part of GMod.
You can also find other gametypes and mods for it in the Steam Workshop.
Now if you want to play The Hidden they have a site for it.

Just depends on what you want to play. GTA has some cool mods, Arma is a game made just for modding, Left 4 Dead has some cool community made stuff, etc.

Also, how can I tell what settings my computer can run certain games on? I want to put all of the Bioshock Infinite settings on ultra just to see how awesome it looks but I don't know if my computer can handle it.
