I want to ladder up, but I keep finding myself in the top of bronze each season, only to falter when the next season rolls out.

Fair enough, but Goody can't play bio, you also wont find a protoss or a bio terran with his apm.
I'm only a diamond toss and I have more APM than him.(I'm about 150 sustained)
He really is an anomoly though, most pro players can sustain over 200 easily.

Another thing to consider is that playing zerg causes higher APM than other races. You make so many more units, merely by hitting s then whatever hotkey you need, and each of those counts as a single action, and due to the nature of zerg, you just make more units than the other 2 races.
