No. we were busy playing real multiplayer shooter games on the PC like Counter Strike.

The whole 4 screen split screen crap was just ridiculous. This was long before huge TVs so your individual box was like looking at an iPad. It was just terrible and highly overrated.

You and your friends just didn't know what real gameplay was.

Nah..

Not only were releases nearly 2yrs apart, CS didn't get popular until 2001.

Golden Eye - August 25,1997

Counter Strike - June, 19 1999

How is it overrated if that was the mechanism for those times?

Like saying bayonets are overrated as a killing device because now we have machine guns to mow ppl down.

I completely agree. The only reason to play those games is for the characters involved.

You are kidding right? Never heard of LAN parties? Much better way of gaming. Everyone gets their own screen.

Goldeneye and CS were still both out around the same time. I used it as an example of how multiplayer shooters that were actually good did things because it was the most popular around that time.

Rainbow Six was out in 98. Even long before that, you had Doom death match, Quake, and several others that all did multiplayer way better that Goldeneye.

It was overrated but I guess I can see how it was fun for all the little kiddies at the time that were stuck playing on consoles because they couldn't understand or afford PC gaming. It was a nice shiny new thing to them. To the rest of us PC gamers, we had had better for years.

Sorry you are old, as I am but LAN parties aren't a thing for most here. I'm 30 and it didn't really start until HS in 2003.

Goldeneye and CS aren't in the same time frame but same era yes. 2yrs is a long time between launches. Not only this but the first release didn't catch fire until about 2001. That is a 4yr period brother.

This isn't even about PC gaming shtt. Its trying to say LAN parties for non-adults was popular and that CS caught on pre-2000.

Keep attempting to defend that shitty game Goldeneye. Just admit that it wasn't all that great and get over it. The multiplayer sucked compared to what else was already out there. PC gaming will always be 10 steps ahead of consoles.

It is a bit hectic, but there is a level of skill to it. There is a reason why that certain guy always wins.

Goldeneye doesn't hold up now, I'm sure, but that was a hell of a time.

Quit being a try hard. Goldeneye was a big game for the FPS world. It had great level development and features.

The game sold the most cartridges for the system it was on and people played the hell out of it and enjoyed it. It's consistently in people's favorite games ever, so I wouldn't call it overrated.

I like to make fun of the peasants as much as anyone, but this game got it's praise for a reason. Maybe you are just pissy cause this is what kickstarted shooters for console.

Yeah fighting games as a kid was a chance to show off your gaming skill. They arent cool today.

Yeah there was always a Street Fighter 2 tournament going in my childhood. I never really got into them either. I was always up for Mario Kart, Goldeneye, or a lot of the EA Sports game tourneys though.

Skate or Die is the first game I really got into taking on the neighborhood with, remember the joust tournaments getting brutal.
