depends on what the developers do. They might forgo 720 development if MS doesn't jump on board.

and if they implement this on the ps4 and not the 720, the customers will jump ship from Sony in droves over to the 720, and the developers will be stuck with their hands in their pants and 0 game sales..

it's a double edge sword, and I really hope it's the end of console gaming as we know it.

Don't buy Sony products then.

So you want consoles to die?

I do. Consoles are garbage. The back end of their life cycle slows the natural evolution of games toward better graphics and more content. The front end of their life cycle drives up game prices. They are inferior to pc in every way.

Consoles drive game sales, gaming wouldn't be where it is without a platform that provides such returns.

Another concern is going to keyboard and mouse. Stout, how much of a pain is it to switch from controller honestly? How long did it take you to get familiar? I would think most games would start giving a controller option, but I could see where some games have so many options a controller would just be a pain.

I can't comment on the switch, but I can tell you that the last console I played was N64 and I have a PS3 now, but I just can't play a game with a controller. A mouse and keyboard is that much better, unless it's like a sports game or something. Go play a major title, especially any FPS, on PC and you'll wonder how you ever managed to play the same game with a controller.

That trend is changing, IMO. We kept hearing how PC gaming was dead from the nosebleed section and now it's anywhere but on life support. If anything it's poised to be king of the hill again. Like it should be.

Piracy is still a huge obstacle that PC gaming has to overcome. It's always been the technical king of the hill but it hasn't translated to sales numbers, that might change with the digital distribution craze but if consoles adapt a similar system (doubtful) it could stay like it is now.

Curse those things! How dare they bring gaming to the masses! I get the smug PC elitism because I dabble in it myself but man there is some hate going on here.

I don't hate it, I don't, but the fact of the matter is, in order for it to actually "fail" .. "consoles" that is, that would mean there would be a huge boom in PC gaming and the WiiU.. so it's really not as bad as it might seem.

ETA: There are just too many people that play video games now, where are they going to go if they don't go to the ps3 or 720? They would have to go somewhere in order for consoles to fail.

The only reason I hate consoles is because they directly impact the quality of PC titles. There's nothing worse than some major game released for consoles and it's only some shitty port to PC because that market is an afterthought. If consoles didn't screw up actual PC game development then I would have absolutely no problem with them.

I can emphasize with that, consoles power a lot of game development but also limit scope if it is the developing platform. PC first developers are few and far between (CD Projekt comes to mind) but I think indie and crowd funding will help turn that around.

PCs in the market dwarf consoles yet PC sales lag behind. A lot of people (imo) have a hard time thinking of a PC as something to game on in addition to everyday Windows stuff. There are so many gamers on consoles because it created a niche that PCs were for some reason unable to capture before consoles came around. To me that means they aren't likely to stay in the game if consoles disappeared or failed.

I think I'm switching to PC once the new consoles come out, if not sooner. I don't like the trend developing in console gaming.

I've always had my hand in the proverbial cookie jars. I've got a decent PC setup and a 360 (planning on grabbing 720) so I'm not really worried about how next gen comes around.

I can't afford to have both, so I'll likely have to choose.
