I bought a launch day ps4 about a year and a half ago. The one that i bought was broken from the start and i had to ship it back and get a new one. A few months after i got that one it broke again and i had to do the same long process of shipping it back and getting a new one.

Well now the THIRD ps4 that i have is freezing when it starts up. When the blue "swirls" come on the screen after the black screen with the sony logo it freezes up and shuts off. When it comes back on it shows a message saying that it was not shut off properly and it is in safe mode.

Anyone know how to fix this?

Anyone think that sony will be able to fix it with the 1 year warantt out of date? Its not my fault that they keep on sending me pieces of shite. I watch DVD/blueray on it every night and i dont play games on it. The only game that i have is assassins creed and i dont play that anymore, so its not like i play it so much that it breaks from being overplayed. Been wanting to get more games but not much time to play them with school.

I am not pleased AT ALL with the PS4. I have never had a gaming system break in my whole life and this PS4 experience is not a very good one. Hell i still have nintendo 64s and sega genessis that still work.

Can you take it to a best buy or other store and have them fix it instead of sending it back and such

Wait. You don't play games and just watch movies/blue rays? Just send it back, as for a full refund and buy a blue ray player?

How much ventilation do you have around it? Is it in a tight, confined space?

It might be overheating due to lack of ventilation. It's always good to have atleast 8 inches free to all sides for ventilation. This is especially important to the back of the ps4 since that is where the fans exhaust the hot air. Also does the shelf have an opening in the back for the hot air to escape?

It has small openings in the back for cords.

Got it fixed over the phone. Had to hold the power button for 5 secconds and then factory reset the PS4. It comes on just fine now. I should have backed up the save data for the 1 game that inplay again but oh well. I think i have it on a USB somewhers.

Not sure what caused the freezing to happen but it seems to be fixed now.

Thanks for the help guys
