You’ll often find that early previews of games and consoles come with the warning that footage shown is not final and “graphics/features are subject to change.” The message appears in the recently released trailer for Nintendo’s upcoming Switch machine, and for good reason: it may not have shown any actual game content.

quote:

Nintendo’s announcement comes after Bethesda and 2K Games said that Skyrim and NBA2K, both of which appear in the video, haven’t been confirmed as coming to the Switch.

“You shouldn't assume what you saw on the video represents actual game footage and further specifics on first-party games will be provided later," Nintendo’s spokesperson added.

This was discussed like the day that trailer came out. Everyone knows that filming actual footage off screen would look like arse so it is digitally added later.

That said, Nintendo would be incredibly stupid to show footage of games on their console without having something solid to lead them to believe that it will be a reality. Bethesda basically saying "no comment" means nothing.

Bethesda said more than "no comment". Said they were just asked to help with the trailer, and there were no plans to port to the Switch yet.

No. That is not at all what they said.

While we are not confirming any specific titles at this time, we are pleased to announce our partnership with Nintendo and support of the Switch. We look forward to revealing specific games and details in the future.

The short version of that is "no comment" not "we have no plans to port it right now." They haven't confirmed it being on the Switch, but they haven't denied its existence either. They simply said we're not confirming anything yet.

Eh, If anything is misleading it's the title. This is just marketing 101.

Everyone does this stuff, and people don't make comments because they always feel it will impact sales.

"Xbox will be your media center"
"Rise of the Tomb Raider will be exclusive"

Even Nintendo will say this won't replace the 3DS or the Wii U it's another third pillar!!

It's a bad look if they don't port it

Digital overlays aren't misleading at all. I get it. They are used all the time.

I just don't know why they would show something like Skyrim on it.

Anyone who thought those were confirmed releases is crazy especially Nintendo fans. Member wind water?

That Mario footage is obviously a scrapped together demo but I think it was a deliberate choice. Mario switch is in development and is coming sooner rather than later

It's a 5 year old game. If skyrim on their console is that big of a deal they have bigger problems that we do not yet know about

Personally, i haven't played skyrim so i hope they have a remastered port. Only way I can sink those hours into a game like that is handheld you wife gives me a pass on batman and Zelda. I have a week of guilt free round the clock frick around time for those titles

I agree the game shouldn't be a big deal but if you show it like that then it needs to be there.

The question should be: Is Bethesda working on TES 6? If so it would probably come out in 2017-2018 right? Maybe they are just getting people pumped for the next Elder Scrolls game and partnering with Nintendo showing that TES will be on the Switch, not necessarily Skyrim. That would be acceptable I would think.

Howard said not too far back (maybe around E3) that the next ES game is a good ways off.

Nintendo probably hoped that they could use some of the mojo coming from the Remastered release, not thinking of the fact that Skryim and the Switch would release so far apart, we'd all have time to get pissed off about it

Incredibly so. Which is why I think Nintendo knows something we don't and why I'm not reading too much into Bethesda playing coy.

Nintendo hasn't mislead anyone any more than other major game developers or the fast food industry. I'm not saying I'm a fan of the practice but it's the reality of advertising.

And while we can probably assume there isn't a version of Skyrim at present that will run on the Switch, we can be fairly certain a build of Zelda: Breath of the Wild can run on it. Were we seeing actual footage of it in the Switch ad? Of course not but that's the case when you see any screen shown in any ad.

so long as people are starved for info, we'll have discussion like this

i assumed it was a short demo provided to them to signify capability and 3rd party support. the switch isn't going to live or die off whether people expect skyrim. though it does raise an eyebrow that they didn't have more developed things to show with launch 6 months away...
