I haven't played in several years so I'm sure there's a lot I missed out on

If you care about trophies at all, ignore the mods until a second playthrough. Every one I clicked for Fallout 4 said trophies would be disabled.

I have it on XB1 and playing through for the first time. I'm sure there are either the same or similar mods on both systems.

There's a ring that allows you to carry an additional 100,000 pounds. I would say that it very nice to have.

There's an "Open Cities" that was nice at first. You can go in an out of cities without loading screens. Then I couldn't get into a major city and had to delete it.

The unofficial patch is supposed to be good. I have it, but never played without it so can't say what the differences are.

See if you can add the cellar to your Breezehome house. There is a nice bow that is overpowered but fun.

Depends on your personal preference.

If you've played Elder Scrolls games in the past, there's a mod that adds music from Morrowind and Oblivion.
The graphic mods are solid too. Can't really go wrong with those.
Definitely get a cheat room mod. And if you beat Skyrim already, get the teleport from anywheres mod. Along with a toggle clipping mod. You'll beat the main story line within a couple of days. But if you haven't played through before or it's been a long time, definitely worth a play through. I downloaded a mod tbag let's you become high king. But you have to beat the story first. So I quickly beat it for the 300th time.

but to answer your question, just look at the top mods of the day/week/month/all time. You'll get a handful a mods and you can go from there as you progress in the game.

I wish I could install graphics and weather mods... But they disable the freaking trophies. Ugh
