Like all Nintendo consoles Zelda and Super Smash Bros will be those killer apps. Throw in some Mario, Mario Kart, Metroid, Yoshi, etc and you have a bunch of nice support games that can also boost sales.
Games are coming. The question is whether or not it is too late. We'll just have to wait and see. At this point the WiiU could pull a Dreamcast and continue into irrelevance or it could pull a 3DS and pick up strong once games come out.

These define my gaming experiences, something is missing with Nintendo selling out of date hardware. It's hard to argue when they are rolling in dough, but frick this might be the generation of Zelda I miss out on because I don't want to buy the wii u with that huge fricking tablet and I know once the PS4 drops I'll be regretting dropping $400 or whatever on an outdated console.

Love my Wii U but it bricked out of the blue and I had to send it back to Nintendo...it comes back Tuesday so let's hope they didn't wipe off all of my save data.

el oh el, Nintendo has more than enough money to survive if the Wii U is not a success, also the 3DS is selling strong now and has sold like 30 million units or so now. Meanwhile the 3DS continues to outsell the vita by more than a 6-1 margin.

Nostalgia is blinding you. The N64 sold horribly and the Wii U is almost guaranteed to pass it. The situations of those two platforms are pretty similar.

I don't think anyone can honestly say Nintendo is doomed, but IMO it's a safe bet that they finish in third place this gen.

If the WiiU ends up anything like the N64 I will be perfectly content. I am well aware that the N64 got beat into submission by the Playstation, but it had an pretty damn incredible library.

It would be a giant step down. Much like to PS2 -> PS3 in terms of sales. Nintendo never quite had a monopoly though. To go from ~100 -> ~30 would be eerily similar to the ~150 -> ~80 that PS2 -> Ps3 did.

We don't know didily shite about the upcoming X-Box, so I don't think that's a safe assumption at all.

We know the general direction the console is going in, with built in kinect and a continued focus on becoming a total entertainment box. Unless they price it at 599 there is little chance it performs as badly as the WiiU is at this stage.

Well, the best people can hope for that the gaming market just needs new consoles and isn't truly regressing.

I really dislike 2D mario as well.

Sin and Punishment
Super Smash Bros. Brawl (even though it was much worse than melee)

While you may laugh, I really enjoyed playing Wii Sports Resort.
There's some more games I could list, but I'm not a list wars person. There's some WiiWare stuff that was decent as well.
