The image originally surfaced on NeoGAF last week. There were some doubts as to the authenticity of it, what with the presence of New Bordeaux from Mafia 3.

But TechRadar claims that an independent source, “close to the development of the new Red Dead game” has confirmed that it is, in fact, the real thing after all. They went on to confirm that the game will take place before the events of Red Dead Redemption, in a location to the east.

You can look at the map from the original game and the leaked map below, but thanks to artsi on NeoGAF, you can see how the corners of the two maps overlap on the Tall Trees and Great Plains area.

The absence of the railroad tracks on the map seem to support the claim that the game is set further into the past, as do the presence of caravan camps and settlements, in addition to the towns.

Man I hated the gta v map. It was so big with just wasted space. It took forever to get from one place to another.

I don't think I've ever disagreed with you before, but please tell me what was wasted space?

The GTA V world was probably the most incredible modern city gaming world to date.

It looked great but spending an hour wondering through the mountains to get where I want is not fun for me. I just feel like once they got to San Andreas they kept trying to make the maps bigger and bigger and the games got less fun to me.

That's reasonable I suppose.

However, I mean it was meant to be realistic. There are big arse mountains and largely wooded areas in real life, you don't just get to teleport wherever you want.

To each their own though. I personally love Rockstar's formula for GTA type games and always look forward to just how much better and bigger they can do the maps.

I understand realism but it wasn't fun to me and that game is far from realistic I guess that franchise has just taken a turn I don't care for. I had fun playing it once but after that I never wanted to touch it again.
