I've noticed sometimes when I'm gaming that my frames drop way low for no apparent reason at all. So I started monitoring my temps while playing and in HWMonitor when my CPUTIN temp hits 65c its like my CPU gets throttled back until the temp gets back below 60c. My processor is an AMD 8150 and my board is an ASrock 970 extreme 3. I haven't done any overclocking. I've read some things online stating that that combo is known to cause the VRMs to over heat and which is what is causing throttling to my CPU. My actual CPU temp is fine. If it is the VRMs over heating what are my options? Buy a new MOBO? VRM heatsinks? I'd appreciate any advice as to what may be causing this and how to possibly fix it. I'm still relatively clueless to a lot of this stuff.

Thanks for the response. I figured that would be my best solution.

Do you think I would be better suited saving money I would spend on a 990fx board and switching to intel?

Intel is certainly better for gaming, but making the switch isn't cheap. $100+ for the board, $200+ for the i5, and $40 for DDR4. I'd probably do it rather than buy another board for an outdated CPU, though.
