anyone messing with either the 7970 or 7950? i'm looking at getting the 7950 as an upgrade over my 6870....looks pretty impressive...just a little hesitant to drop $470, but probably will because i'm weak.

I bought a 7970. It overclocks to 1125/1575 and at that speed is faster than 2 6950 unlocked in crossfire. Beastmode.

I can play BF3 all ultra with 0xMSAA and High FXAA at 6080x1200, 40-50 fps in multiplayer.

yeah, i don't want to drop $550+ on the 7970 when the 7950 is a very good alternative....

what level do you run the fan at and how is the noise? i know on my 6870, if i turn the fan up 50%+, it starts getting annoyingly loud.

low 70s? damn, i try to keep mine in the low 50's....i didn't research that or anything, i just thought that was a good number to aim for .

so you'd be good running at 70C for a couple of hours?

well, they're comparing the 7970 to the 6870 (my current), so it's relevant to me. apparently my 6870 is small time compared to the 7970

Sorry, was trying to finish an assignment before class started...just turned it in, so now I can screw around in class. And just reading this thread makes me realize how little I know about PC gaming

how big is your power supply? i'm on 650w, think that's enough? think they say the minimum should be 500w...but i doubt that's considering any overclocks.
