7970 > 580
AX1200 is way overkill unless you know you are going to be running 3 or more GPUs

Understood. When I putchased it the 6970 was the top of the new Radeon food chain. The 6990 wasn't out and I'm not about to drop that type of coin on a graphics card anyway.

My point was that to get high performance you don't have to buy the top of the line in graphics cards. As someone said earlier a 6850 (I think that was the model) will do a pretty darned good job.

The OP is waiting for Ivy Bridge. Ivy Bridge is slated to release Q2 2012. There is absolutely no reason to suggest any 6 series or any equivalent Nvidia GPU as the 7 series is starting to be released this month and Kepler being release Q1-Q2 of this year.

If you want to reccommend a 6 series, the 6970 should drop to around $300 and the 6990 to around $500 (wishful thinking). It's hard to make a build for Ivy Bridge when the 7 series Mobo's aren't even out yet and the current GPU generation is being phased out.

I wasn't suggesting anything. It was a sidebar conversation in the thread.

that's why I want to wait until Q3 before I build.

What are some go too companies for cases?

Ah crap. I accidentally replied to your post. Should be have replied to the last suggested build. My bad.

I am a big fan of Cooler Master, Lian Li and Antec cases. My past 2 builds have been Cooler Master and 1 Lian Li. Lian Li's mobo tray (if you are looking at the front of the case) is on the left where traditionally the mobo tray is on the right. Absolutely no difference to where the mobo is mounted but Lian Li likes to be different.
