Also keep in mind the 480 is using 51% GPU Utilization (1080 98.7%).

I checked some other forums and they all heard the 1-3 hundred line for Polaris. The cheaper would be 11 but there still is another 100 hundo above what they showed.

As far as upgrading? Ya, my 290x is still doing ok even at 1440p. Free sync helps in that regard tho. I'll wait for the 490x and make a proper one.

I'd guess the 490 will be the $300 card, with the 490X above that, and then the Vega 11 Fury series early next year.

I do wonder if they will produce the 490/X with HBM2 at a low cost with Vega 10 later this year, as has been rumored for awhile now.

And the settings were clearly different. AO is definitely higher on the right, and barely there on the left.

With the 1080 running a much higher IQ than the 2 480x's.

Yeah, they wanted to show the $500 solution outperforming the 1080, but clearly weren't able to depict the 480X as being half the performance or better. Which is fine, but what it tells me is that performance/dollar is probably pretty close to a non-founders edition 1080. The information was super-vague and the whole presentation seemed to lack preparation. Maybe that is how they usually go; I rarely watch these.

Why do you guys keep saying 480X's? Am I missing something and the 480 and the 480X are now the same or what?

There was nothing in this presentation about the 480X, just the 480, unless I spaced out and missed something.

Well the Nvidia conference this year was awkward as well. There were plenty of question marks there as well. Sadly, the NDA doesn't expire on Polaris(if I read this correctly) until the 29th. Will be a long wait for non-partisan benchies.

Unless my eyes were bad, I saw 480x on their info slide. My eyes are shite I'm tho, so I might have been mistaken.

Definitely not. There was nothing about the 480X tonight just the 480. Maybe the new roman numeral naming system threw you off with RX 480 as opposed to the R10 480.

Ahh. So the xfire is the 480s.

Wait. That says RX 480.

Oh, I misinterpreted the pricing and didn't see the 480 on the side. I thought 480 = $199 and 480x = $250, but I'm guessing that's two 8GB 480s for $500.

That chart is confusing, though. The utilization of crossfire 480s is 51% on that game? Why even demo crossfire if the scaling is bad? Something is fricked up about that data.

Unless the X is a placeholder for either 7 or 9 like their last tier cards.

Well AoS is a CPU powered game like almost all RTS's to even begin with so I have no damn idea.

Could be, but from what I've read instead of calling these cards the R10, they are using RX instead. Could be placeholder, but I think it makes more sense to call them RX. It is Polaris 10 afterall then Vega 10 and finally Vega 11 Fury line.

I think we'll see the 490/X Vega 10 series with HBM2 later this year which has been the rumor for awhile now, and then the Fury Vega 11 HBM2 line alongside the 1080ti next year.

I honestly think we wont see the HBM2 cards until big Vega. The smaller 490/x would compete with the 1080 IMO, not sure the xtra bandwidth would be needed for those. Wouldn't surprise me to see GDDR5X.

It's possible, but that was the rumor that AMD moved up an HBM2 card to Q3. Not necessarily a 490X, just a guess there could be a new card, but that it was Vega 10.

The big HBM2 cards are Vega 11 that are the Fury series. So Vega 10 has to be something, and it's HBM2.

Who knows, all I know is that I'm waiting for HBM2 for sure.
