It's just a starting point. If they shouldn't be there, they will lose more than they win and they will fall in rank. If they should be there they will go even and stay there. If they are better, they will win and move up.
Placements shouldnt mean that much to you. I was Gold last season and got placed silver 5. It was inconvenient to have to play through silver completely, but I did and I'm back in gold.

Jackie is right.
In the long run, if you're friend truly doesn't belong there, he'll drop.
I've given up trying to figure out how placements work.
Eventually, you will be ranked where you are supposed to be ranked.
I've been up and down in Silver 2 & 3 for a bit. I feel confident I am a Gold V level player, but clearly I have aspects of my game that need work before I should consider myself better than my current Silver 2 rank.

Yeah, I get what you guys are saying.
I didn't mean my post as a rant if it seemed like it, I just don't get it either.
I guess my thinking on it is that this guy, hypthetically, could be placed in a match with me on my team, feed, and we lose. It also can be the other way around and he be on the other team.

Drewbie made a post a couple pages back concerning this. Has something to do with MMR reset and such.
Players who are new to the game are getting placed in high silver frequently, while veteran players are getting placed in bronze, lower silver.
The placement formula is all jacked up, so you have newer players that are absolutely misplaced.
In the long run, you will wind up where you belong rank-wise, regardless.

The explanation is pretty simple. New players who have never played ranked before don't just come in with an MMR of 0. They are freely given an MMR in the Silver 3 range. So if they happen to win half their placement matches, they stay there regardless of their skill level. Couple that with the fact that Riot apparently slashed everyone's existing MMR from last season to this, and you see a lot of the veteran players getting placed in bronze while new scrubs are sitting mid/low silver. I've said many times that the level of play in high bronze kicks the shite out of low silver. Getting out of bronze was cake due to the fact that people had the game knowledge to rotate for objectives, and the basic concepts of good team comps. So if you do have that knowledge, climbing out of bronze simply takes superior mechanical play. Meanwhile in silver it's just a fricking shitshow.
I'm not sure if I shared this or not, but my smurf with a total of 16 champions that I hadn't placed in ranked since season 4 with went 3-7 in placements this year and got placed silver 4 after being bronze two seasons ago. Not having an MMR last season actually increased the placement because of the new formula. It's pretty busted.

There are no mechanics in Bronze/Silver.
You don't need mechanics to get out of Bronze, you just need to make better decisions. Same goes for Silver.

quote:That's retarded. There are mechanics at every level of play. They may be at a low level, but there's no such thing as no mechanics. If you have bronze mechanics, you're going to stay in bronze because of what was mentioned above. Game knowledge in bronze is higher than that in silver. This coming from someone who's seen both this season.

When's the last time you played a ranked game in bronze?

Miss one binding at 4 minutes into the game and my adc goes apeshit and incredibly toxic for the rest of the game. In game 2 of my promos no less.
Posted on 5/2/16 at 7:16 pm to dcrews
I played with a guy last night that went 1-9 in promos on new account and got Silver 4. He was ungodly bad to no surprise.
The system is trash for new accounts.

Been spamming Morgana for a week straight. Someone else picked her first in champ select for the first time.
Janna it is
ETA: Finally hit Silver 1. Have been absolutely ineffective at playing damage dealing roles these last few weeks. Figured I'd remedy my complaints of lack of vision and macro game and start playing support. It's worked thus far.

Gonna finish my grad program today. Might have more time for league.
I've only been interested in playing Aram and rotating custom the past year. Anyone wanna duo to gold?

This coming patch has changed essentially my entire mid champion pool and almost all of the items I buy on them
Champ by Champ
Vlad - Olaf'd. Loses spell vamp and increased healing on E AND damage reliability. Much less scary late and similar early.
Malz - By far the most changes. Loses enormous amounts of DMG but gains a possibly broken passive and lower mana costs. Was secret op previously (Even more so vs Burst Champs) and probably will still be really strong.
Cass - Loses all free stats from passive (25% CDR and 30%AP) but gains an item slot from passive. Lower DMG do to e going from .5 cd to .9 and a smaller AP ratio. Not sure how useful the grounding on w will be till I use it.
Brand - Possibly more DMG so scary.
Vel - True DMG lazer and proper AP scaling on ult and passive while only losing some waveclear. Going to be even more of a monster.
