A word of advice for anyone running the weekly nightfall or heroic strike, destiny database always has a breakdown of the different burns and strategies to make them easier. LINK

Guns from the vanguard vendor. But I'd spend it on materials because his guns/armor suck balls.

You have to get etheric light to get to level 34. It upgrades your legendary armour so I assume you need 3 etheric light and a maxed out exotic piece of armour to get to level 34.

All commendations do now is add to your vanguard or crucible reputation. I still have one of each for my warlock. In order to buy legendary weapons from vendors you just need to be a rank 3 with that sect and have enough crucible or vanguard points.

Any legendary armor can be ascended with etheric light.
