It's completely optional, and you can just run through it. Just buy some antidotes.

Yea I ended up running through it went to the boss. Died and ran back through but went the opposite way to the elevator short cut. I only tried the boss once. I tried the forsaken castle boss like 5 times. Can't even get him half way.

You have to stay on his arse and parrying him makes it way easier.

Also if your able, aquip the cannon later in boss fight and use it when his health gets able 1/4. Will finish him off and you will have a happy ending to the game

Just picked this up, any general tips to make the experience more enjoyable? Or a link to a good resource. Never really played the other iterations.

Take your time and be patient. You'll probably die a lot but the enemies never change - it's about learning from mistakes (most of the time). Weapon upgrading is very important. Starting class doesn't matter too much, just depends on whether you want to use heavy or fast weapons (strength or dex).

One Reborn, Amygdala and Logarius. You shouldn't have much trouble with the first two, they don't have near the health pool of Logarius.

Just beat pig and cleric beast, do I fight that father guy next? I accidentally stumbled on him (no idea how) and got murdered. Do I fight him next or is there something else to do?

He's the next boss and first required boss. If you haven't finished exploring the whole area then you might want to. There is an item you can pick up that will help you with Father G.
