TOKYO -- Nintendo Co. reported a net profit of 41.8 billion yen ($350 million) for the fiscal year through March, a reversal from deep losses the previous year, as it reshapes its troubled business with a long-delayed foray into smartphone games.

a lot of people on this board are pretty anti-nintendo

So this thread seems appropriate to say, Hyrule Warrior is a massive blast

shite if they give some solid release dates and steal the show at E3 again, it's an August birthday present for me and I'm gonna be 29

This board always seemed Nintendo friendly to me.

A lot of morons. Nintendo will be around long after Sony and Microsoft are out of the console business. If you think PS4 and Xbone have loyal fan boys, you've never met a Nintendo fan boy. Nintendo has the most loyal fanbase of any gaming company in the industry and it's not even close.

Great. Now they need to use some of that profit for a new, open world Mario game.

Nintendo isn't done. They're operating within their means (despite losing money in Q4) and keeping their margins. Their userbase is also buying a lot of Nintendo games (Mario Kart and Smash sold a lot especially).

That said, everything else in the report was bad for Nintendo. They shipped 12.56m hardware units for the 2014FY, which is the lowest since 1995.

They missed their conservative HW forecasts. 3DS shipments are down 3.5 million YoY even with the new model launching.

I think that this shows that Nintendo isn't going away and is more than happy about making profits even if it means not being competitive. They forecasted a slight rise in Wii U sales, so I'm assuming there's going to be a price drop this year. They also expect $300m profit on $4.7 billion revenue. That screams price drop + R&D on the new Nintendo platform.

Here's the full financial statement. LINK

Sony lost money though for the FY. Lost less than they expected to, but still overall loss (with a profit in Q4).

Amiibo print money.

This is only the beginning. If the next console is dual home+portable. We might see a return to near Wii years.

One can hope. For sure, they aren't going anywhere.

I think a good bit of people are realizing 2 things.

Nintendo really doesn't care about making or posting these grandiose third party titles that everyone that's a casual or UBER COMPETITIVE gamer just eats up. When I see all these titles like AC, Outlast, Destiny, etc., I see games that have massive budgets that don't even focus on gameplay half the time. It's all about the visuals. The presentation. Which is not bad relative to today's technology and ability to advance farther into different gaming mechanics. But I feel as if a lot of AAA companies are forgetting a key aspect of gaming. The very essential for any game really. Just the "fun" part of it all.

I know fun is really up to the person, but it's more or less lost in the presentation of the game like I mentioned earlier. The visuals almost cover up the fact that the gameplay at its core is bland, boring, and recycled. It depends on a cliche, totally (albeit somewhat original) overblown scenario to make up for the abundance of flaws it has from the very beginning. Destiny is probably the biggest culprit in what I'm talking about.

I know it sounds like I'm spouting nonsense, but actually play those games again and try to see what I'm talking about. Some AAA titles are really good, don't get me wrong. But most are just interactive movies with little to no substance. The only thing these AAA developers are focusing on these days is multiplayer and it is frustrating to no end to see what that's come to.

Destiny's gameplay was excellent, the story was what sucked.
