What the hell are they thinking with this? That really, really does not speak positively for the upcoming year for the system at all.

Sounds like we are witnessing the beginning of the death of Nintendo as we know it.

They are the only ones that make money off of handhelds but even that will eventually die due to the tablets and smartphones.

I mean, its basically implied if you're one of the big 3 that you're going to have a press conference at E3. Its really suicide not to.

I don't think so. There are two other game conference that are much larger than E3 (GamesCom and Tokyo Game Show), but Nintendo has never been at either of those and MS skipped GamesCom recently. Not every company finds value in doing these big conferences. Nintendo will likely hold their own event before E3 to show off new stuff.
I do wish they would show it at E3 because that's where they'd get the most coverage.

This would be awesome but I don't think we're close to it happening.
Nintendo is coming off of the Wii and DS which were mega successes and made them piles of money. If the WiiU and 3DS aren't big hits I don't see that ending their hardware strategy.

They've pretty much embarrassed themselves the last couple of E3's. Maybe they realize they have even less to show this year and don't want to make things worse. Let everyone assume that you still suck instead of putting on a clown show and removing all doubt.
