It can't run some games but there are plenty of 360/PS3 games that they still don't get versions of.

A lot of people think that game will release on Wii U and NX. Right now the big rumor is a Twilight Princess remake. They may release that to hold over until the new game.

I also saw some tweets saying the chips are on par with current consoles.

Nintendo has the upper hand right now and better not screw this up.

Sony and Microsoft are locked into their current generation for probably another 8 years or so. Nintendo needs to take advantage.

That doesn't really give them the upper hand. Right now the others have it because of the install base.

actually it's more than that - you know that statement: "First impressions are all that matters" ? Well in the case of Nintendo, it all started back with the N64, they went cartridges when the 3rd parties wanted them to go CD - then they did the small disk on the GameCube

Those discs were already an optics industry standard. They held plenty of data and the GC was able to decompress quickly enough, so it didn't really hold back developers.

But you're right, it's not just about moving consoles. The wii was miles ahead of the 360 and 3 mid cycle in sales, but devs walked away.

This. The chips inside don't matter, the PS2 was actually the least powerful of that generation.

And that has never once really mattered in the Console Wars. Let's take a look at who was the most powerful and who sold the most in each war:

4th Generation: Most Powerful: Genesis; Winner: Super Nintendo
5th Generation: Most Powerful: N64; Winner: Playstation
6th Generation: Most Powerful: X Box; Winner: PS2
7th Generation: Most Powerful: PS3; Winner: Wii

The power of a system is highly over valued, especially in this day and age where the Wii U seems capable of doing anything I've seen from the PS4 and X Box One. Graphics are no longer impressive like they used to be.

All true. If graphics were all that mattered then PC would be the only platform.

The ps4 and xbox one are significantly more powerful than the ps3 and xbox 360.

The wii u is slightly more powerful than the 360 and ps3.

System power does matter when the gap is this significant. Today since most games are online multiplayer, there are way more cross platform games than console exclusives which means console power is more important than ever.

For me, I'm just beyond buying a console just for the next game with Mario or Zelda in the title. They need some new IPs or a lot of 3rd party support to win me on their next system. Nintendo can make the best system out there, but if their AAA titles are just Mario and Zelda, I'll pass.

I'm starting to feel the same. I've had enough Mario and they haven't made a Zelda I love since ocarina.

Overall Power doesn't matter but the difference in power does. As soon as it became financially inefficient to make ports things started to fall apart. You could make the same exact game with some changes on the Gamecube, PS2, and Xbox, so it worked....but the GC still got trounced. Nintendo shifted gears, created a less powerful console and after Year 2, everyone abandoned the system or put "lesser" games on it rather than ports. All the while....Porting games to the Xbox and PS2. It was ridiculous.

Nintendo HAS to be within the Port Range and then it still has a ton of work to do to lure 3rd parties back.

This is well said. 1080p vs 900p isn't that important but mass differences like Nintendo does completely changes games.

The power between consoles now isn't remotely significant. You can do basically anything on the PS4 that you could on the Wii U. The fact that Metroid Prime's graphics complete stand up shows that these differences are not significant. Name me a Wii U title that could look better if it were on another console? Power of the console is highly, highly overrated in this day and age.

The PS4 from a hardware standpoint bends the Wii U over a barrel. Your average PS4 game would run at probably 3-5FPS on the Wii U.

It's a huge deal when companies don't feel like porting games. AAA game companies can't even be asked to properly port games to PC and they sure as hell aren't going to port to Wii U. The power difference is a huge deal and it's a big part of the reason why Wii U has no 3rd party support. The other part being major architecture differences.

Nintendo game graphics are stylized and optimized around the Wii U hardware. If Nintendo chose to port the games to other consoles they could improve the graphics even further.

I'm not an Xbox One or a PS4 owner either. I only play PC games and Wii U games, but Nintendo for 2 console generations in a row has put out hardware that is only slightly better than the previous generation standards.

Here's a list of hardware differences. You seem not to understand the difference between 8GB of memory and 2GB of memory, or an 8 core processor vs. a 3 core processor
