Okay, I'm biting the bullet and ordering a cyberpower PC. I've customized it to my liking, but I'm by no means a technical expert. I don't want to be buying anything that conflicts, or that will go unused because I didn't buy something else to go with it, etc...

Here are the specs as I have them so far. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated....

CPU: Intel® Core™ i7-980 3.33 GHz Six Cores 12MB Cache, 10% overclock

Cooling Fan: CyberPower Xtreme Hydro Liquid Cooling Kit 240MM w/ Dual Fan(CPU & GPU Liquid Cool Capable, Extreme Overclocking Performance + Extreme Slient at 18dBA)

Motherboard: (3-Way SLI Support) GigaByte G1.Guerrilla Intel X58 Chipset SLI/CrossFireX Triple-Channel DDR3 E-ATX w/ 7.1 Creative X-Fi Xtreme Fidelity Audio, Bigfoot Killer E2100 GbLAN, eSATA, USB3, 2x SATA3 RAID, 3 Gen2 PCIe, 2 PCIe X1 & 1 PCI

Memory: 24GB (4GBx6) DDR3/1600MHz Triple Channel Memory Module

Video Cards: 2x NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570 1.2GB 16X PCIe Video Card (EVGA Superclocked)

Power Supply Upgrade: * 1,000 Watts - Thermaltake TP-1000M ToughPower Modular, 80 Plus Silver Certified, Quad SLI Ready, CrossfireX Ready & Active PFC Power Supply

Hard Drive: * 120GB Kingston HyperX SSD SATA-III 555 MB/s Read & 510 MB/s Write Solid State Drive

Data Hard Drive: 3TB (3TBx1) SATA-III 6.0Gb/s 64MB Cache 7200RPM HDD

Optical Drive: LG UH12LS28K 12X Blu-Ray Player & DVDRW Combo Drive (BLACK COLOR)

Sound: Creative Labs SB X-Fi Xtreme Audio 24-BIT PCI Sound Card

does cyberpower pc not have the sandy bridges? (I think that would be an i7-2600K)

I don't do a lot of PC gaming ... however, I am going to be playing The Old Republic in January on my laptop and it is an Intel i5 quad core with 8MB of RAM and I know it will run that game easily ... the system you are describing should run anything you throw at it and you could quite possibly hack into NASA like matthew broderick in WarGames ... that is a SERIOUS system you are describing ... the ONLY upgrade i can even imagine is to get a 10,000 RPM Hard Drive instead of the 7,200 RPM ... but, since you are getting the Solid State drive, the data HD upgrade is not necessary at all

I don't believe so. I don't see it as an option.

I tried building the same specs on alienware to get a price reference, but the options are far more limited on that site. It took me 2 hours just to select the specs on Cyberpower because I had to decide everything.

This is getting pricey, but then again I want this to last me a long time. It's just some of the technology I don't know about.

For example, the motherboard. When I built my same specs on alienware/dell it told me i didnt have enough PCIe slots available for the second video card? I'm wondering if this is an issue on cyberpower and its just not telling me? I don't know shite about that sort of thing.

You should have enough PCIe slots available ... the video card will take up two of the slots ... the sound card/adapter and network adapter are probably integrated into the motherboard and therefore will not take up any extra slots .. however, if they are NOT integrated, you need to find out how many slots are on the motherboard itself ... and wha4t type of slots they are .. PCI, PCIe, or AGP .. most likely you will have at least 4 PCIe slots for your video and sound and then you will just need another slot for your network card (if that is not already integrated into the motherboard)

So each video card takes up 1 slot, correct? That would make the 2. And the sound card for a slot. And the network card...That's what confuses me about the network card...

The motherboard description is as follows...

Then later in the process I have this option for my network card...

It appears then that I'm selecting an upgrade that's already inherently present in the motherboard....am I reading this correctly?

the "SLI Support" means it has room for two video cards

correct, you do NOT need to add the Network Interface Card upgrade because the motherboard has an integrated gigabit network adapter ... then you are going to want to install the Video Cards into the Gen2 PCIe slots .... the specs also show that the audio adapter is integrated as well, so you are actually going to end up with 2 unused PCIe slots and a PCI slot which can be used for upgrading a variety of things in the future

Ah, awesome. I also upgraded the sound card lol. Thank you for pointing this out. I'm going to deselect those and save a few hundred bucks.

However, in reading through the reviews, I've seen where people say someone has called them in the building process to tell them these things. I wonder what happens though if they don't? Would I have 2 network cards and 2 sound cards if I selected them but they were already present in the motherboard?

yes ... there are certain applications for having two network cards and/or sound cards ... for instance ... i have two sound cards for my laptop for when i set up my dj controller ... it allows me to use one sound card as the output and the other sound card to monitor other songs through the headphones ... the other applications for having two network cards are very rare though

Ah okay. Now I understand what it means by the "on board" option.

I'll stick with those. Thanks for the tips. I'm pretty stoked about this. The hardest part may be picking out the chassis. They have some badass options.

What the frick

That's WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY overkill. Anything over 8 gigs is overkill right now. You'll just be throwing your money away.

The rest looks awesome.

Are you planning on running this on multiple monitors?

I've had dealings with ibuypower.com and they have done a good job for some friends. See if they give you a decent price. I just can't see not building you r own. Been through all this trouble to select components. Pay yourself the difference in the time it takes to go a bit farther and learn to assemble one yourself. Proud moment when you push power and it awakens.

So you literally went through and picked some of the most expensive options that you could find? That'll set you back a cool 3,000 dollars. At least you got a future-proofed mobo.

That was the goal. I want this thing to run today's games just as well as 2015's games.

I actually held back quite a bit. Most of the stuff I selected was mid-tier. The graphics card options were insane. But I've read in a few places that having 2 medium ranged graphics card is less expensive and just as good, if not better, than having just 1 top of the line card.

I also held back quite a bit on the Solid State Drive. I'd love a bigger one, but those things are ridiculously expensive.
