Buddy of mine is trying to convince me to get it. Clan has all but died out on Destiny. Need something new to play co-op. I know there's loot, which I like, but a little concerned about actual gameplay. Somebody talk me in to it. All thoughts/opinions are appreciated. PS4.

I played for a couple months at launch and had a blast.

It’s very grindy. Similar to D1 which made me enjoy it.

I believe they’ve added a whole lot since I last played, but if you can get it for less than full price i’d highly recommend it, especially if you have friends to play with.

ETA:

Gameplay is fantastic. I found the one weapon I wanted to use (bow) and mastered it and never really tried anything else. I never got tired of it.

The HUD can be a bit intimidating at first but after a few hours you'll move passed it.

It's a great game. And the monster roster has been expanded post launch to get it to a fairly respectable place. It's still smaller compared to other MH games but there is an expansion coming out that should expand it greatly.

There are so many great and different weapon classes to try, the real selling point of the game.

For the life of me I do not understand the appeal of the hunter game genre. Swing a big weapon at a single enemy for 30 plus minutes then do it all over again.

I mean it’s no different than any grindy loot game.

Like all of them, I get bored super quick playing alone. If I have 2-3 friends to play with i’ll Play pretty much anything for hours.

I played the absolute frick out of that game for a couple months. Burned myself out and never went back, but it is a super fun game if you like the concept.

If you get a solid group friends, you should be able to clear just about any missions in 10-15 minutes. But yes, some of the fights can certainly drag on a long time.

Lacking in the story department but the game is a ton of fun. Really enjoyed exploring the world and fighting each new monster. Twice we fun with a buddy. Overall would definitely recommend especially at it's current price.

Will be delivered today. thanks for the feedback. Is most of the game do-able with 2 players or do you guys recommend matchmaking everything? Neither of us have ever played anything in this series.

I do not know if they fixed this or not, but if neither of you have played it look into how you play together.

It wasn’t simple to begin with. Initially you could join someones Hunt if you had viewed the cutscene of that particular hunt. So both of you would have to start a hunt solo and once you both saw the cut scene someone would have to bail on their level and join the other one.

Also at launch the monster’s health was scaled based on solo or multiplayer. So this meant the monster had the same amount of health with two people as it did against four. So two people would be at a major disadvantage.

These were problems at launch. I played for like two months and they hadn't been fixed. Idk if they ever took care of them or not, I would hope they did.

This has been my game for the last few months. It's quickly become my favorite.

It starts out a little tedious. Approach the hunts like Dark Souls boss battles. Learn monster timings and weaknesses. There is not a suit all weapon, but all are capable.

Don't worry about materials in low rank. Just craft whatever you want. It will take around 30 hours to get into the meat of the game.

Once you get into high rank, start specializing builds. Focus on the alpha pieces that provide the best skills for your weapon. As you get into tempered monster hunts, focus on beta pieces and decorations.

The multiplayer scales base monster health by 2.6 regardless of number of players. So two hunters are at a disadvantage against a solo hunter or three hunters.

Take advantage of joining SOS flares as you learn monsters. Use investigations with gold rewards to increase the chance of harvesting rare materials. Grab everything you can. Flash pods, tranq bombs, and shock traps are your bread and butter. Honey is a must have. As the game progresses, there is a means to grow all crafting components.

Yes, it is a grindy game. But there is a specific avenue to get the materials you want. It is rewarding in that regard.

As the other replies have said:

It's a very fun game. It's well worth the money if you're into a grindy monster killing game.

As for myself, I could never relate to this twitch combat game like, say, Soulsborne games. I quit playing about 75% through. It was fun but I did not like the repetition. I just got bored.

Still, I do not regret the purchase.

Buy it. Have fun. It's good.
