I might be in the minority but I love the first one, the story is incredible.
When you have that certain "encounter" and you get the entire plot explained to you is fantastic. One of my favorite moments I have had in gaming.

The 1st is my favorite one. I play it yearly.
The 2nd is very close.

I wish I had played through them in release order. I started with 2 and didn't go back to play 1 until they finally ported it to PS3. The story is great but man the combat sucks compared to the 2 & 3
