Mass Effect Recommendation

I've always loved games of this type and by all accounts this is a great franchise. I've been wanting to begin a playthrough but the time commitment for playing all 3 games is daunting, I have maybe 12 hours a week I can commit. Is it still something I should try to do before playing Andromeda? Doesn't the storyline build on itself from game to game? Should I just skip 1 and play 2 and 3?

12 hours a week? They're not terribly long games, but you won't finish in time to play through all three. I really think you can play Andromeda without playing the other three. I wouldn't jump into ME2 or ME3 before playing the previous games though.

Only play the Mass Effect series if you like playing good video games. If you don't like playing good games save your 12 hours.

Its an incredible franchise. It may be tough to play 1 because its very dated compared to games today but if you can get through it, it would be worth it since choices carry over to 2 and 3 which are some of the best games I've played. The story is great throughout all 3

I still suggest you play them. You also don't have to play Andromeda the day it is released.

Andromeda is a separate story. Same races and technology in the trilogy but they are branching off from Shephard's story.

To do everything in one game is about 20-40 hours. Worth it though

Even though this is a new story outside the main character in the first 3, I would advise playing the first 3 first anyway.
My favorite series of all time. Beat each of them as good/bad and made different choices as I went along.

I did not know who they were but I knew it was Mass Effect based. Just thought it was a multi-racial gay couple in a effort to be progressive.

i played through 1 and 2 not too long ago. it really isnt that dated IMO.
i skipped 3 cuz i heard it sucked, watched the ending on youtube

It doesn't suck. The very end isn't great, but the rest of the game is better than 2 in my opinion.

I played them for the first time a couple years ago.
1 is worth playing but the mako missions suck. Also the inventory upgrade system sucks. It is still worth playing. Great story with a great ending.
2 is awesome. 3 has some great emotional moments.
All 3 games are great. Yes. All 3. Including 3. 3 has the most refined game play even if some folks weren't happy with the last 3 minutes of the game.

They somewhat fixed the ending. I had no problem at all with the ending of 3. Played it twice in a row. Gameplay mechanics were better than 1 and 2. Probably more emotional moments in 3 than 2.
My only issue with the revised ending to 3 is you still need to log in to the online portion of the game and set some missions in order to get the best ending. You don't actually play anything online. You literally just click on a mission title to get points you need to have the best ending.
The whole online thing was bullshite but it didn't detract from the massive fun I had playing 3.
