Mass Effect & Mass Effect 2

How much did you enjoy both of these games? And where do they rank for you in terms of a game and its sequel?
I've only played Mass Effect 2...I just recently started Mass Effect and I'm enjoying it just as much as the 2nd one.
With that being said, I'm freaking pumped for Mass Effect 3.

Just finished one. It was sweet but short. Will start 2 in a bit.
The only thing I didn't like was all the useless shite id get in my inventory. Pain in the arse to sell or convert. Other than that I'd give it an A.

I enjoyed both of them, but I think I can appreciate the first one more as a whole. Second game took out a few of the RPG elements and they tried to make it just a little too streamlined. I hated the inventory system in ME1, but it seemed like they just totally scrapped the idea of inventory in the second game. I like some management of equipment and tweaking stats.
Also, the story in the second really doesn't seem like it goes a lot of places. You spend most of your time recruiting your team rather than advancing the story. The collectors plotline wasn't nearly as interesting as trying to hunt down Saren, IMO. The ending of the first game seemed to be on a much grander scale than ME2 especially with regard to some of the choices you can make at the end(Paragon/renegade choices).
I am interested to see how they plan to handle the Reapers in the third game. I hope that Earth doesn't play too pivotal of a role. It would be better to have a lot of skirmishes with the Reaper invasion at various planets/systems IMO.

After playing the first one I thought it was a solid game that I enjoyed thoroughly. After the second, I though holy crap this franchise is going to be epic and it made me enjoy the first game even more than I already did.

Huh ? Did you just smoke through the main story as fast as you could and skip any side stuff ?
Took me 40 to 50 hours to play through the first.

I did all the assignments that were available. Finished a little over 30 hours.

Finish ME1, you dont have to but the choices you made in the first one carry over to the second.

I felt the first game was better mainly due to more inventory and side missions and what not. I really like more choices and control in a game compared to a straight up here it is Arcade style of a game. (For example: Ghost Recon 1 & Tropic Thunder was better than the GR games preceding.)
With that being said I give due respect the story development of the second with the more characters and conversation options. I agreed with one statement regarding this that the Second game is made to set up the 3rd. What's funny is that the second was really concerned about who you were going to hook up with, haha.

Who pissed in your coffee. I lost my shite on that part.

huh? I don't think I was being too critical or anything. I liked ME2, but I just don't think it's the end all, be all.
Collectors were weak villains, but I suppose they just needed something to bridge to the next one.

No. In the original ME, you tell that to the chick on the ice planet when shes being a jerk.

oh, gotcha. It's been a long long while since i've played.
There are some cold-blooded dialogue options in there though. I can recall giving the reporter lady a nice shot in the jaw when she was getting a little too nosy.

Or in the beginning when you knock that dude out if you "Shut him up". I think at one point I mocked some guy because his kid died in a war ON MY SIDE. Yeah my characters tend to be bad, imagine that.

I would definitely play ME1 first. I actually enjoyed that one more because it had better RPG elements, like mentioned earlier in this thread.
If youre really eager to get to the second game (which IS more polished and has a better combat system), it's only the choices you make during the main storyline of ME1 that get carried over to ME2. If you really wanted, you could skip the side quests and finish ME1 in around 20 hours.

maybe its because i got the games off steam, but me2 would not pull over my me1 character.
so quick question about how the game changes based on your me1 choices... if you saved the council in me1 (ultimate paragon) is that still the case in me2?
the defaults for me2 with a male character are:
saved wrex
saved ashley, kaiden dies
sacrificed the destiny ascension (and the council) to focus on sovereign.
recommended udina to the council.
i know the wrex scenario and ashley/kaiden scenario will change based on your me1 choices, but will the rest ?

Any choices that your character made will have an impact on the game. To be honest, things really don't change that much except for who you talk to during certain cutscenes.
This isn't to say that it won't have a significant impact on ME3.
I'm thinking if you saved the council, some of the council races will be more inclined to support Shepard in the fight against the Reapers.

Are you serious?? Damnit.

i actually just did a bit of research and figured out the problem.
if you have a steam copy, you need to launch the game from steam (not from the desktop me2 icon) and run the configuration app. copy your final saved game character from me1 using the prompts and then exit out.
after than you can launch me2 and import a new character. just tried it and it worked.
