What is the combat system like?

Would one need to play previous editions to understand what is going on in Witcher 3?

How long is the game in hours?

Would you recommend anything else over it at the moment?

TIA.

Dynamic action. It's like a skilled dance once youre good, mixing swordplay, bombs/crossbow, and magical signs. You pirouette and dance through enemies while carving them up. It's delightful once you master it

No. They do a great job catching you up. Can watch a YouTube vid detailing the previous plots.

Very long. Well over 50.

Jump straight to 3. If you want to play 2 then fine but skip 1.

I like it once I got used to it. Became very fluid. This was my first Witcher game. Some initial learning curve, but not bad.

Nope. I didn't and was just fine.

I put well over 300 hours into my first play through. There is a ton to this game.

It really is, but getting to that point can be quite tough, imo. There's so much going on, and so much dodging required. I always have a bad habit of focusing on blocking or dodging or attacking and had a lot of trouble remembering to do ALL of them. I promise that will make more sense once experienced

I still feel that Witcher 2 has the best story in the series, but Witcher 3 is absolutely worth your time.

My copy of the Witcher is coming in the mail today. Search for this article. It's given me a lot of insight about what world you're entering

Familiarize yourself with the 5 Ds of combat. Dodge, Dodge, Dodge, Dodge, and Dodge. And then roll around if you need to with additional quen spam.

Hated the first one so much that I skipped the second.

Love the third.

Action Adventure. Not just button mashing. Need to dodge, sometimes throw things while casting spells. I loved it. More exciting than spamming one button.

I only played 3. I couldn't get past the tutorial on 2.

Long. If you do all quests and hit every single ??? then it could be 100 - 200 hours. The core quests can be done much much faster.

That tutorial sucked. You should give 2 a try again sometime TM, it's a great game outside of the tutorial and intro.
