It was part of the documents that leaked from the Court handling the FTC's attack on Microsoft's purchase of Activision/Blizzard.

LINK

quote:

The document is heavily redacted, but it does reveal that performance of the next-generation Switch will be close to that of the PS4 and Xbox One:

Basically, it's details about Activision being briefed about the Switch 2 in December 2022 and discussing how they could be able to make games for a platform with those specs.

For the MS/ABK merger, this means the FTC lied when they said in court that Microsoft couldn't follow through on the promise to bring Activision games to Nintendo consoles. The FTC knew about these discussions and lied anyway.

I already carry around my PS4 and play it wherever I go...why would I pay for a switch 2?

What's the expected release? As someone who was leaning to get a switch for a younger family member, would you wait on the 2?

The switch 2 will likely be fully backwards compatible with everything on the switch so it may be worth the wait, but I would imagine the switch 2 will be scalped to hell and back and will be difficult to get for awhile

Lol why can't they release anything that is at the PS5 or Xbox One level? Sad

I initially solely bought a switch for Breath of the wild and fully intended it to be the Zelda machine. Then I figured out how you can dock it and play with Xbox 360 controllers making it a console for all purposes. This thing can already run things like Witcher 3 and Red Dead 1. I’m incredibly excited to see what they can pull off with ps4 level tech because honestly right now I’m not sure they’re even running with a full mid life cycle of ps3 levels.

And I know the vultures will rain down on me for this, and full disclosure I don’t have an Xbox and have not played Starfield, but everyone I watch and trust in reporting says it’s just mid. It’s not the great Jesus Xbox wanted and needed, again apparently. Just a mid Bethesda game. No one is going to buy an Xbox for Starfield. I’m not the biggest Nintendo games fan because I prefer sonys much consistent adult oriented approach but a switch is so much more of a tantalizing prospect than a shitty Xbox with a shitty streaming service in an era where everyone knows streaming isn’t profitable and that model will collapse or be rendered into something unrepresentative of what it currently is

Rumors were already swirling that it will be coming in 2024, but Nintendo hasn't even officially announced it yet so it's hard to say if that will come to fruition. This leak might force their hand.

I wonder if they mean the PS4 Pro and One X because the switch was already pretty close to the launch version of PS4 and XBONE when measuring in teraflops.

Switch - 1 TFLOPS
PS4 - 1.8 TFLOPS
XBONE - 1.3 TFLOPS
PS4 Pro - 4.2 TFLOPS
One X - 6 TFLOPS

TFLOPS do not mean everything, but it is one of the very few ways to measure compute power. I feel like something coming out more than 6 years later would at least 2X it or more.

EDIT: Maybe all the sites saying that the switch is 1 TFLOPS is bullshite. Per the top comment here:

quote:

The stock Tegra X1 is capable of 512 GFLOPS, not 1 TFLOP, and the Tegra X1 in the Switch is running at significantly lower than stock clock speeds.

The actual numbers for the Switch are: 157-393 GFLOPS depending on whether it's docked/undocked and running in boost mode.

So if it was launch xbone or PS4 level then that would be a major jump.

Why? Because you happen to like Starfield? Would you happen to be sunk cost fallacy into Xbox by chance already pre wired to over positive disposition to the game because if it is truly mid it basically just sinks Xbox more? I’m sure that’s not the case at all. That’s cool man I’m happy for you. I’m sure it’s more or less an enjoyable game to play for the most part. Are you actually going to try and claim Starfield delivered in any way or came anywhere close to being what Xbox needed it to be? If so you are a homer and shouldn’t be taken seriously on this issue

Because Starfield is amazing and anyone who says otherwise is lying.

I forgot about backward compatible. May go ahead and get switch, games then upgrade consoles later if I want

I feel like my house buys more Switch games than any other type. Part of that is because of Game Pass (so there's no need to purchase as many games), but part of that is also because Nintendo just keeps coming out with awesome games.

I can't wait until Nintendo's next Metroid game. I love the 2d games and them going back to it on a home console I owned was fantastic. Now I'm itching to get a 3ds to play the game they made for it as I've seen videos and it looks very similar to dread. (gameplay wise)

Why do you think it will be backwards compatible?

If it isn't, that would be a huge mistake.

Not saying Nintendo doesn't make those types of head-scratching decisions, but I hope they don't.

I thought they announced it already. After searching around, no mention of a decision made on backward compatibility.

I agree that would keep a lot of folks away probably

Agree, but they'll have to build some sort of emulator, the rumored nvidia soc is multiple generations ahead of the old one. TSMC 5nm or even 4 would be much better than the rumored samsung in a handheld :(. I'm sure i'll still buy one regardless.

It's going from maxwell to ampere if the rumors are true. So DLSS would more than likely be viable. Massive upgrade, even if raw performance is only on the level of launch xbone and ps4.
