I hooked up my old Xbox and when I tried to watch DVDs it said you need to connect the DVD playback kit receiver to a controller port to watch movies. What is the playback kit? I never had a problem watching DVDs in the past.

I remember there used to be a little remote receiver that plugged into one of the front ports, but that's all that is ringing a bell right now.

Old Xbox as in OG Xbox, or old as in old Xbox 360. You need the playback kit to play DVD on the original Xbox iirc.

It's a thing that goes into the controller slot and has a remote. Only way to watch DVDs on old Xbox

Why don't you have a DVD player or older Xbox to watch DVDs

Its the original XBOX. I have dvd players I just wanted to watch dvds in another room that didn't have one. I never had a kit before but was able to watch. Did they come with the system? Maybe I did have one and just lost it.

No didn't come with.

I actually forgot about those.

I'm sure you had one and just didn't think about it. Would be my guess

You might not remember correctly, you need a playback kit for DVDs on OG Xbox. You either had one before or you were using something else.
