My hdmi port is not working and after trouble shooting with the support line they suggested I send it in for repairs.
They gave me two options, $129 for the repair or $99 to trade my original "fat" ps3 for a refurb slim.
Anyone do this?

My HDMI port went out last summer after a lightning strike. I have a slim and they fixed it for $100 with no problems at all. I would take the refurbed slim if I was you.

I have an original 60 gig fat (backward compat). It's bluray drive died. I sent it in to be repaired, bought a slim in the meantime and the fat has been sitting in the box It came back in ever since. I figure it is a good thing to keep around for ebay in the future.

Have an old fatty and never have sent it in, but there are some games that overheat it and cause it to shut off with about 10 minutes of gameplay(Infamous 2, LA Noir). Apparently this isn't uncommon.

I'll still have my 40 GB fat one (bought it the week after they stopped producing the 60 gig BC ones) and mine has yet to crap out surprisingly.

I had my fat one sent in years ago when it was still under warranty, did for free. I think they sent me a new one actually.

My HDD went out on fat model Sony said since I had the old version it wasn't eligible to trade in for the new slim model so they repaired it for 129. Shipping was extremely slow they admitted to losing mine it took a solid 3-4 weeks to get it back. I called and bitched a lot sothey gave me 2 free games of my choice. I started a thread about it 2 weeks ago...

Yes, within the first month of owning(2007?) the HDD went out.
Sony shipped me a box for shipping and it was replaced in 2weeks.

All of you with the fats can get good money for them. I have a 40GB fat and they go for like $160 used on Ebay and Amazon. Even broken they are worth a bit.

When you say "fats", you are referring to Originals?
