What do you do? What's the answer?

I think the answer is Nintendo needs to start thinking big picture, because all of this seems like a work around to the limitations the switch had at design. They created this phenomenon with Splatoon....and it's MP. MP that is team based from what I gather. Teams "generally" like to communicate, or at the very least, friends, who are probably not playing in the same location, like to talk to each other. They really didn't design their console for that, but know there is some demand, so they come up with an app. Take it for what it's worth, but it's something. But it turns out to be this half assed watered down version of discord that's pretty much going to make people just use discord if they are on their phone anyways.

They bank on the ideal of "you can only play these games here", and there are a lot of people who are "ok, sure". And with that mindset, they aren't going to bend on a lot of concepts. "People are going to come, we're Nintendo." And that just chaps my arse.

Not a bad answer at all and thanks for actually addressing it. And I would agree with pretty much all of it. And yeah if they would have nailed the app and its functionality, maybe this conversation is different. But they didn't, they completely failed.

I kind of agree that it sucks, but for those people, of which I am admittedly included, not playing Nintendo games is kind of not an option. I tried Overwatch. It was boring after a few of weeks and wasting money on boxes. I hate that kind of system, which Injustice 2 and MvC 3 both games I wanted to buy are pretty much off my list. Zelda was better than Gears of War and even Witcher. I've put more time into Zelda and Arms than any game on the X1 outside of Witcher and maybe Smite. And that's having the X1 for over 2 years. And I can't go to another console maker and buy the system and play those games.

So yes, if I want to play Nintendo games, saying "ok sure" is kind of the only option, unless you ask people who prefer Nintendo games to just not play video games. That's really it.

And that's why they might seem like fanboys, or like they are rationalizing. Because there isn't really an option, people just end up dealing with obviously bad decisions.

Just thinking of recent Single Player Games (ok Witcher is not so recent) that I was excited for, bought and spent time in.

It's obviously way below both, but I wasn't interested in Horizon or the others (nor could I play some on the X1).

And I feel they owe their hardcore fans so much more than the effort they put out. If you paint a picture of how they view their fanbase based on how they operate, it's pretty insulting. Like, I still can't get over the gall it took to slap the "Metroid Prime" name to that 3DS game. Or the build up about this HUGE ANNOUNCEMENT at E3 back in 2013, I think, and then it turns out to be the Wii Fitness chick was going to be a playable character in Smash Bros.

It's either being very smug, or they have truly lost touch.

Every game i have played with open Voice chat in the last 5 years is just a bunch of 13-14 year old kids yelling racial slurs and some a-hole blaring music through his mic.

If I want to play a small game with a group of friends I'll just use discord.

Whenever I would use VC on the 360, I just used party chat, just my friends. I agree that general gamer chat is vile and useless, but let's not throw out the baby with the bath water.

Yes, there is discord, skype, TS available, but it's just less of a hassle on PC because it's all on one device. You don't need to get your phone out and hook up another set of head phones. It's all centralized. Consoles should offer an all in one chat option, because what if you play with a gaming headset? So that's game sound through that, and an earbud with a mic from your phone tucked into your ear under the headset. I did this for FFXIV on my PS4 and hated it. Discord had talked about bringing their app to consoles and it can't happen soon enough. So yes, it's an option, but not an ideal one.

There is that hyperbole again.

Also, any game I have played has a mute button for said 13 year olds if you need to.

Again, not hyperbole. Halo, Call of duty, battlefield, etc... Just a bunch of young kids screaming curse works and slurs and some a-hole blaring music into the mic. Why is that hyperbole?

Because you're making it seem like that happens 100% of the time or there is nothing you can do to filter it out.

Because it is an exaggerated statement.

This statement is just false. Or you are just the most unlucky person in the world. Yes, call of duty does have your idiots you run into. Yes, going to the scoreboard and tapping their name puts them on mute.

Either way. I use voice chat about 3 to 4 times a week with friends. Would not playing mariokart in a friend party chat or splatoon 2 be a good thing?

All 100% fair.

But yeah...

Or arrogance. That's usually the issue.

Voice chat made Destiny for me, my most played MP game outside of Splatoon this generation.

I would say that since Nintendo's big hitters, Mario, Zelda, and DK have no MP component to them that they just weren't prepared for how much Splatoon took off and are now scrambling to up their online presence, but Mario Kart has been a beast forever. They've had time to figure this out.
