Finally got a PS3 and Black Ops and haven't really played first person shooters since I was a kid.

I'm at level 11 from playing multiplayer and do OK, usually 10-15 kills per match.

What tips do you have for a n00b? I'm a run and gun type player and would like to decrease the amount of deaths per match. What's the best way to evade an attack from behind or the blind side?

Does not compute.

Use ghost and a silencer. Stick to the outside of the map and flank. Strafe when you shoot if you are engaged 1 on 1.

It can compute...maybe not as few deaths as you, but I run and gun and have a 1.28 k/d. Not great by any means, but not bad for running and gunning.

My advice to the OP is to play enough to know where the other team will be going and setting up. Until you know that running and gunning will not help you. You will be blindly running into them. Until you learn the maps, take a slower approach.

I'm just happy if my ratio is positive. That's really the only thing I strive for.

yeah always keep your back to the outside of the map and outline outside of the map that way u arent spawned behind and switch your control layout to tactical and dropshot this helps a lot

Just curious, what does switching to this do?

Thanks for the tips everyone. I really need to learn the maps. I think the last first person shooter I played was Goldeneye for the 64 and I could run the levels backwards.

I'm really just playing this for a little bit of relaxation after the kids and wife go to bed but it would be a little more enjoyable to be as competitive as I can be.

Don't bother swapping your layout to dropshot. It's not very effective unless people are just spraying across the map. It will also take time to learn to use without being a handicap.

AK74 with a grip,
Strela3 for secondary
Flashbang
Semtex
Tactical insert helps if you keep it hidden near the middle of the map or on objective games to bounce between two spots efficiently. Motion sensor or claymore is good too. Just preference.
Ghost
Sleight of hand
Marathon

That's a good starter run and gun class to learn maps with and keep you off of spy plane. I know you don't have the ak74u yet, but the famas or Galil with silencer are good too. Try the spas12 silenced if you're good at sticking to walls and cover. If you try the spas, remember to use terrain to get close to enemies, then enjoy the hipfire kills. Steady aim is a must for that class.

Until you get the strela to shoot down things, the LAW isn't bad. Once you do get the strela you can replace ghost with scavenger/flak jacket/hardline, but you'll have to use the strela on spy planes.

For killstreaks, using spyplane is great. It helps you learn situational awareness as you play and provides more radar advantages by showing people. Counter spyplane is HUGE though. It is the only counter to a blackbird, and it enables you to negate the need for silencer or ghost.

You'll no doubt find things I just said that you don't like, so feel free to try things out. It'll make you better to mix it up.

The only classified guns that are amazing are the g11 on medium to large maps, and the stoner. Neither are very easy to learn run and gun with though.

The ak47 you get at 38 and it's my favorite to play aggressively.

Open sights are great once you get accustomed, and you save an attachment.

Goodluck.

for now use the Femas and AK 74u

suppressor will also help you keep a low profile while youre learning the maps etc. for now.

I like iron sights for both those guns, starting out you'll wig out with the red dot and try to be too precise....

it switches the prone button from O to right analog stick therefore u can press down on that and dropshot knifing is know O and it takes time to learn. trust me if you switch and learn it your kd will increase tremendously, take it from me i have a 2.05 kd and if you dont take my word for it watch seananners on youtube.
