What are some of the top-of-the-line gaming headsets out? I'm talking about 7.1 surround sound and great sound quality. Don't worry about the cost.

*Sorry if this is in the wrong section.

I love my Sennheisers

I had Astro's and they were good but just suddenly quit working.

The Sennheisers blow the Astro away.

Has no real competitor in my experience. Even Astro A50's really cant compare to my sennheiser game one. So glad I switched.

Get an Astro mixamp pro, antlion mod mic, and then a nice pair of headphones.

This would be a pricey, but it would shite on any gaming headset out there

Unfortunately gaming headsets have pretty much always been style over substance - cheap pieces of crap that have very poor sound quality. Honestly the only redeeming feature of gaming headsets is the attached mic for convenience. The sales are based purely off of marketing, almost exactly like Beats.

I'm not sure if you're a PC or console gamer, but I got a pair of Audio Technica ATH-AD700s several years ago and these things are unbelievable in terms of durability and sound quality. They've since been replaced by this model LINK

This is actually a good suggestion, probably better than any other advice you'll get in here plus you get the flexibility of high quality headphones.

Can Vouch. My Game One's are the best purchase I've ever made.

ETA: I run my Sennheisers through an Astro MixAmp.

For those with Sennheisers, if given the choice would you get the Game One or the 363D?

I have PC and Xbox one. And I was looking at the Sennheiser PC 363D's.

Same. It's $50 more but I've heard fantastic things about the 363D.

I have the Game One's and while I'm sure they can be improved upon, I just can't imagine it getting any better

With the 363D, would one need an amp or dac to accompany it?

I love my Senns as well, I have the old 360 model, 363 I think is its replacement. I have tried the high end separated mic, headset and amp. It does work better, but its not a huge step for me because I don't stream and need that level of mic recording when I get a very close solution with Senns. The sound quality is quite high with them and the best solution for me.

Plus the level of comfort for my head is by far the best I have ever had with any solution. I can wear these all day without any discomfort.

Yes but nothing major, SMSL makes some inexpensive ones that are pretty good. Also I would go with the Sennheiser HD 598's over the 363D. They have a better build especially in the headband, also both use the same drivers so they will sound very similar. Just doesn't come with a mic but you can purchase a better one with the $100 you saved.

Also surround sound is marketing bullshite when it comes to headphones it degrades the sound by distorting the source. What you want is an open air pair of headphones. It gives a large soundstage and the feeling of surround sound, only downside is everyone in the room and ones nearby will hear whatever you're listening to.

I don't stream, so I just have a normal headset with the Game One's.

One of my favorite things about the Game One's is the ability to move the mic up and down. When you want to mute the mic, you just move the mic upwards until it clicks and then to unmute you move it down.

Sounds really simple I know, but it's probably my favorite thing about them.

Do these just plug in with a 3.5mm jack? For the separate headphone mic setups?

A lot of the gaming headsets are USB. I know mine are.

I already own the HD 598, so I guess I can invest in a high quality amp/dac.
