I guess FF15 had a pretty long road trip start but that was eight years ago. Just feels like a half hour movie where I lightly push some buttons so far.

Great deal on QVC now where you can get this game on PS5 for $42.50 w/ code NEWQVC30.

Code NEWQVC50 gives $50 off $100 order if you want 2 games.

I think the discount only applies for new accounts?

The voice acting in this game blows my mind. Maybe this is known by many people but Cids voice actor is the same guy from GoT who acted as theons first mate then betrayed him at winterfell. He delivers the best performance ive seen 11 hours in.

Also for anyone not started yet the first 5-6 hours will feel al ittle ff13 ish while you port from location to location but there are wide open areas that open up into it.

The hideout is a really sick hub. I dont wanna say more than that other than the side quest arent really optional its a bit like the witcher 3.

From all the reviews I’ve read: mostly 9/10. Some saying it’s the best FF ever made, others say it’s middle of the pack. Some say the story is amazing, others say it drags. One thing they are all saying though is that the combat is amazing and the sound/music is as well. Also seeing some reviews saying it’s to easy which is a tad dissapointing, wanted a real challenge

Just picked up my copy bout to fire it up for a few hours before the game

I’m not finished obviously but I’d say 9/10 is accurate. Best FF ever is a heavy implication I definitely think it is the best technical Ff title ever made( as in the technical aspects), I think the story is quite simply unparalleled and will redefine what imitators do going forth. You can make the claim it “drags” if you’re being dishonest but why are you playing a 50 hour minimum JRPg then? Combat by and large isn’t difficult especially for general mobs. I have died a few times but the save system is so generous it just puts you right back into that boss with full potion capacity. That said I haven’t even gotten to the hunt board unlocked any eikon stance beyond Phoenix/ifrit who sort of merge eventually or Garuda I’m sure much challenge will come

Some reviews I have read said the final fantasy mode new game plus difficulty that remixes encounter to make them much harder is trivialized by them carrying over all your abilities etc. I find this unlikely and the journalist didnt even play it because having your abilities means jack shite in this game if you dont know how to use them correctly.

Good lord, the Ifrit vs Phoenix ending was pretty damn disturbing. This is already by far the darkest FF

Did the motion blur 300mb sneaky patch fix performance mode for anyone better than it was in the demo? To be fair the demo it says was two whole game builds behind the release we are playing. I started on graphics mode because performance mode was kinda iffy on the demo but swtiched and its much smoother.

Digital foundry broke it down where the demo had this weird setup function where performance mode would keep a rock solid 60 fps in combat and dip anywhere from 30-45 rarely at 60 anytime out of combat. It doesnt feel the same in the final build

Finally got to play last night. Basically got to Garuda before I quit for the night.

Few things:

So far it’s been a combination of two of the greatest games I have played. GoW and FFX.

I was waking through the great woods and it really reminded me of the linear Kilika woods from X expect visually more stunning.

I’m a bit of a fan of it being linear because the characters/story/world are phenomenal. Too much openness is a distraction for me personally. It keeps me focused.

It also reminded me of dungeons in FFXIV. Group of mobs…mini boss…group on mobs…mini boss….group of mobs…big boss. Very straight forward. It works especially if they are delivering on everything else.

I don’t really need to speak for the combat. It speaks for itself. It’s satisfying and fun.

I like Clive. I love Cid. I like Bendadick also.

10/10 so far for me. But I think 9/10 is really where it should be globally. Hate that it’s stuck at 88 on metacritic.

IDGAF what the “critics” or anyone else says. I’ve played and beaten every numbered FF game and XVI is one of the best in the series.

So far I'd say it's easily better than 13 or 15. I wish it had more in the way of itemization. I'm also not a fan of the overworld map stage select thing.

Let me open up the map and fast travel whenever I need to, but if I'm just going from story beat to story beat just load the next area. No need to keep dumping me back on the menu and making me select location.
