IMO VIII, IX, VII.

They are all GREAT. Don't get me wrong. And I'm not hating on VII at all by putting it third. I just preferred the other two.

VIII is my favorite FF. I really enjoy the story & combat & junctioning has been my favorite character customization.

IX has a good story. I'm not too fond of the combat but everything else is great, which puts it in front of VII for me.

VII was great aswell. I might even decide to put IX and VII at a tie. I love VII, but I've played it so much that just thinking about playing it again, at least in the near future, makes me cringe. Also, not really a fan of Cloud. He's sort of a whiny bitch.

I may actually start playing it instread now that you've brought it up.

I'm assuming that game is your #1?

I've been kind of leaning towards IX. my though process is that IX would be a better game to follow up VI with as opposed to the other more futuristic settings of VII and VIII.

Since I can only play one of them, I'll finish up VI and then move on to IX. then at a later time, I'll play VII and VIII back to back.

is this a good idea or is this nonsensical and it doesn't make a difference which order I decide to play them

Yes, definitely my #1. I play it about once a year.

i can tolerate the graphics, but did not realize no analog control, that might be a problem

I am sure if you plan on playing this through any other means than the Playstation, Playstation 3, or the Playstation Network, there may be some way to play this game with analog control. While this should not be a deal breaker, this is really the only thing that makes this game seem old and dated.

VII is my favorite game of all time so I would go with that. The 1st disc of VIII is amazing, but it's kind of down hill after that imo. I did not like IX when I was younger. However, a year or two ago I picked it up and played through it again and loved it. Characters and story were a lot better than I remember and the game play was always solid.

IX, followed by X. X would be the best IMO if Tidus wasn't such a whiny bitch.

I am in a minority, but VIII is my favorite Final Fantasy...even though the story gets a little wonky around the third disk.

Final Fantasy 7 is great and I still play it once every couple of years. I still have only played through IX one time, but it wasn't a bad game. I guess I found it harder to relate to monkeys and rats then I did a talking machine or a talking lion.

VII is my personal favorite, best story line and the materia system was flawless in my opinion.

VIII was great, but drawing 100 fires from a bomb just to kill Ifrit was a bit irritating.

IX was good, but I didn't enjoy the storyline as much and the Trance system wasn't nearly as good as limit breaks.

My vote is for VII

I DON'T HALF arse ANYTHING WHEN IT COMES TO FF! So yes. I really did. Then as soon as I learned the cards got you better magic I played the shite outta the card game to have 100 tornados by the time I got to disc 2. I ran from all battles though, leveling up in VIII didn't pay until you had the GF's with bonuses.

Yup. Card-Mod Pandamonium and you will pwn.

I still couldn't imagine drawing 100 fires at the beginning though.

My bad. 200. 100 for Squall and 100 for Quistis. Worst 45 minutes of my life. Had to get some out in the plains from the flying things first and they were less generous than bombs.

If you wanted to stand a chance later in the game you had to do this.

With every spell in the game no less.

I'm late to this party, but:

VIII was extremely good story wise, and I actually really REALLY enjoyed the draw system

IX was incredible in bringing all 8 of the games before it into a full circle.

VII just doesn't match up to the other 2.

So I would say, play VIII or IX, I enjoyed 8 a bit more, but I also absolutely loved the draw system.. and the story was the best of any of them.

Or since it used an "average of all sums" level system, you could manipulate the system to make yourself a god..

I had Squall at level 99 and everyone else in the 30s / 40s, and for the most part Squall could / can one shot almost anything..

You could draw 99 of the powerful magic early in the game and attach it to your weapons and run through the game fairly easy. Its the same amount of grind you would put into any other. I loved how open world FF VIII was.
