They may as well call it Dark Souls 4 but I get it.

Massive open world, new crafting and stealth system. Power stancing weapons is back.

I'm wondering what the mind stat is about.

They give you an actual jump mechanic.

Worth the price of admission alone.

Do pumped. Rumor is they're having another open network test sometime soon.

Looks like an incredible title.

I won't be able to play it because it's clearly DS-esqe and I just get murdered on games with that difficulty level. Right up my alley on story, genre and graphics, but I'm just not cut out for all the frustrating punishment.

About the most "difficult" combat system I ever mastered was Dragon's Dogma.

This. I want my games to be fun. Not feel like work.

The difficulty in Dark Souls is what makes it great imo.

There are individual fights/areas that are difficult, but once you learn how to play a DS game the game itself isn't difficult at all IMO. I like that you have to focus on defense/staying alive and just get your licks in when you can.

It's carved out its own niche because of that, and a lot of people love that.

I don't mind doing that at the beginning of a game with low level gear and stats... but once I've put a crapton of hours into farming gear and whatever else there is, I wanna be able to throw caution to the wind and just charge into seemingly impossible odds and see if I can just carve everything up...

From what I've seen of the DS titles, even with the best gear and preparations if you just charge in there's still a lot of baddies that'll one shot you easily.

Seriously, I love watching videos of the DS games. That mystical, evil and dark fantasy medieval stuff is my absolute favorite type of game... but I'm just not patient or masochistic enough for the DS games

*in Russian accent*:
You are adorable, like wittle baby!

Seriously though did you not grow up with an NES? It blows my mind how people think Fromsoft games are so hard just because they don’t always hold your hand.

I don’t have any special “stick skills” and I’ve Platted every one of them including Sekiro which is by far the hardest; and they’re all pretty forgiving compared with the original Ninja Gaiden/Castlevanias and the holy mother of frickness that is Ghosts ‘n Goblins.

I’m just praying that they don’t tame ER for the masses.

ETA because I was a bit of a dick: my biggest beginner tip for Demons/Dark Souls is to start with Temple Knight or Knight respectively. Both give you early access to a good shield and healing miracle which are the two best beginner survival aids.

Reporters play five seconds of dark souls and write about how hard it is, but it's not. I've done a deathless run of 1 and 2 both. It's a simple as getting familiar with patterns and the control scheme.

Right. But,

That’s just excessive

I played the network test and it was plenty hard. Man I can wait till this game comes out. They basically combined all the best elements from all fromsoft games and put them in this game.

Ready for this game to drop. Finally got Sekeiro since it was on sale and tried it out some. Not a huge fan so far of the jumping and spider man grappling stuff but maybe it'll grow on me. I much prefer DS to this so far.

I'm doing a daughters of ash run for the first time right now too.

You can play the game. You can beat the game. All you need to really beat souls is time and patience. The real reward is not beating the game. It’s what you learn about yourself in the process.

Once you learn the DS strategy, it becomes a ton of fun. Other games just pale in comparison. Also, if you want just to cheat, there is an easy way to level up to god status.

YouTube

I use that now just for the hell of it.

This (although the last sentence is a little dramatic lol)

Just finished my first ever souls game by beating Demons Souls. Remember taking forever just to make it to the first boss. Then remember it taking forever to figure out a way to beat the second boss. Then FINALLY made it to False King Allant and after a couple of attempts realized that there was simply no way I would be able to beat him.

Figured out that I was simply underpowered with my weapons and cheated a little to determine that something like the Dozer Axe was what I needed and I figured out a way to collect the shite necessary to do all the upgrades.

From what I've been able to gather, it seems like once you figure out the core concepts of one of the games you'll likely be able to play all of them pretty well.

With 2 kids (one of them < 1yo) I have very little of one of these and none of the other on any given day.

The good news is that I will have a very healthy backlog of AAA games in 20 years.

Same here, I like games in can pop in and spend maybe 15-20 minutes at a time since something is always going on in the house.

If I am going to spend an entire weekend doing something then it will most likely be bass fishing. Granted this weekend with the nasty weather incoming I might have the opportunity to spend a little more time on a game.
