Dark Souls is "definitely over" says Miyazaki, working on totally new IP

So no Bloodborne sequel, and the souls formula type games are out. Interesting to see what they do next.

Miyazaki made clear that this feeling applies to Dark Souls' predecessor, Demon's Souls too, responding to a question about a sequel by saying, "we want to try new things." Presumably, that also applies to Bloodborne which, despite ostensibly being a new franchise, relies heavily on the Souls games' template.
So no Bloodborne sequel, and the souls formula type games are out. Interesting to see what they do next.

I think they do some new things.... but I don't think bloodborne is over, Miyazaki might not be involved with Bloodborne 2 (similar to ds2), but I think there will be at least another bloodborne.
That being said, I could be completely wrong, they even canned an extra DLC or 2 for bloodborne... FROM might be getting burned out of this style of game for now.

Yep. They don't own the bloodborne IP so I'm interested to see if Sony finds someone else to do it.

Reading into this tells me there is no plans for a souls template type game. That's a pretty strong statement. Anything with the souls template (DeS DaS, BB) is out, and when he says no sequels, spin-offs, or tie ins that tells me he wants to go in a total different direction.

This also confirms that he's going to do something completely different. If he has Armored Core on his mind and wants to take a break from the Souls formula. I doubt the new IP is going to be anything like Soulsborne.

I agree he's got AC on his mind and he's even said that he's looking at Scifi for his next game, correct? What I'm saying is you keep adding "formula" and "template" into what he says he's not doing. I just wouldn't rule that out unless you speak Japanese and heard him say that.
However, a new IP involving mechs in the same way Demon's Souls was reimagining the King's Field series is probably a pretty safe bet for what's next.

Never played them. Just tried to watch a let's play once or twice. I think the first one was on the first PS so graphics are very dated.

It had some good ideas, but I can't really recommend them to people. Have a lot of technical limitations that made them cumbersome to play.

It's sad that's it's the final game, but they need to move on. If I were Miyazaki, I'd want to prove that I could do something else and do it just as well. From has a goldmine of talented personnel that are capable of creating new IP or expanding on existing ones.
