It's a little confusing, but what you do is head out to Darkroot Basin after you kill the hydra, head beyond the waterfall, and there will be a golem. Kill him to free Dusk. Quit, reload and you can summon Dusk, and buy her spells. Quit, and reload and you can go pick up Dusk's equipment at the end of the cave at the Lake.

Then inside the Dukes Archives there is a crystal golem who will drop a broken pendant. Once you have the broken pendant, you can go back to Darkroot Basin in the cave, and you'll see a portal into the Abyss. Go through it and you're in DLC.

Holy Crap, is that the only way to access the DLC? And if it is, so you buy and download the DLC and then your supposed to find out how to even be able to access it?

this is a game that prides itself on not spoonfeeding the player.

why should figuring out how to access the expansion be any different?

Nevermind. Apparently if you walk through the fog Gwyndolin is instantly hostile. Now I have to drop fricking 40,000 souls to absolve my sins so i can be a Blade again. Seriously, frick this game. They don't tell you that fricking shite. I'm so mad right now.

trial and error can be a real motherfricker.

40k isn't too difficult to raise, there are some decent farming spots. you'll be absolved in no time.

Phalanx in the painted world is a good one.

You could also throw down your sign for some boss runs. O + S have a pretty solid yield.

Yea, that makes sense. But I don't understand that about this game. When trading with Snuggly, and accessing the DLC, you are supposed to figure out that you have to quit and restart the game in order to achieve something. I just don't like how that is part of the game.

You should have heeded his warning!! If I remember correctly when you first speak to Gywndolin he tells you not to cross the fog gate or something like that.

Well that was annoying. But After losing 30k in Ariamis from a freak kill, I made up enough to absolve myself and rejoin.

So why aren't all of the bonfires listed on my possible warp areas?

Oh, well I must be thinking of something else.

You have to rest at a Bonfire after getting the lord vessel in order for that Bonfire to appear on the warp list.

I totally see your point. Things like that, and like how you get to the Ancient Stone Dragon. Who the frick would think there are two illusory walls? I didn't even know about the cave at DR Basin until my current playthrough.

However, once you do the DLC it makes sense that it is where it is. Still, a new NPC at Firelink to give you some sort of idea would have been convenient.

I think the best Dark Souls experience is to play it for the first time blind. No guides, no nothing. And then use walkthroughs, YouTube videos, and forums for hints and stuff for your next playthroughs.
