“For us, it’s not about specs, it’s not about teraflops, it’s not about the horsepower of a particular system. For us, it’s about the content,” explained Reggie Fils-Aime. Rather than devoting time to console power, it seems as though Nintendo is going to angle itself towards an overall better gaming experience. “We’re focused on bringing our best entertainment to both the Wii U as well as the NX in the future. So for us, whatever Microsoft and Sony are doing in terms of talking about new systems, that’s for them to fight out in that red ocean.”

So to me, this sounds like their mentality just isn't ever going to change. I'm not saying the NX has to be right up there with the current gen............but it needs to be close, if for no other reason than to bring back 3rd party developers who don't feel like "slumming it" and bending over backwards to develop for Nintendo;s gimmicks.

"We have Mario and Zelda, what else do we need to say?"

Do you think the NX is their last gasp at putting a console out? They have money and can probably keep doing it, but die hard 40 year old fanboys who grew up with mario isn't going to make any system a financial success.

Just sounds like all the other info we've heard about it, they're going to try and reinvent the wheel and bring in new customers with a unique gaming experience like they did with the Wii. A portable/console hybrid with dynamic tactile touchscreen buttons, VR, or something else..

Nintendo has never had the most powerful console except for maybe SNES. It's always been about content. It's not going to change.

I just feel that if you aren't going to put something out there that can actually compete, it's only going be this niche device that people might buy because they heard that Mario game is kind of fun.

I read this too and just shook my head. I agree with you that by them continuing to lag behind in tech they will lose out on 3rd party games. The generation that fell in love with mario, zelda, and samus are still loyal but without 3rd party support I dont see how they can expect to sell many systems. I was raised on Nintendo and Sega but I have not bought a Nintendo product since the Gamecube because its not worth the investment to play two or three games a year even if they are stellar. Hell this past year I cant think of any on the Wii U that I wanted to play.

Super Mario Maker is the best game of 2015 with infinite content and replayability and a huge dedicated online community that will last as long as the Wii U is online.

Nintendo is worth more than all of Sony. LINK
They don't want to compete in bringing in a million TPS's and open world RPG's. They want to do their own Nintendo thing and please their own dedicated fans with their quality franchises and hopefully bring in a few more by offering something different

As much as the Wii U has been a failure, I would put their 5-10 best games up against the other consoles. They simply don't need a million mediocre titles to supplement. Quality over quantity

Specs may not matter in the scheme of things but keeping up with your competition does, and the wii u proved that Mario and Zelda simply aren't enough to move consoles.

It's frustrating to see them give the same arrogant spiel over and over.

Nintendo has more than its fair share of shovelware shite. There are plenty of great titles on PS4 and the One.

This doesn't really dispute what I said. The average console owner probably owns less than 10 games. If a XBox/PS devotee isn't switching to Nintendo for Mario, why would they switch just because it offers the similar specs?

Nintendo's strength is in its creativity, unique innovation, affordability and their own franchises. Why do we want them to abandon that vision, create something technically indistinguishable from the other two and compete in someone else's game? You want Nintendo to be just the third console instead of being Nintendo

This is some serious fanboy spin here. Who gives a shite how Sony is failing in it's other divisions?

If they want to just rely on their support and no 3rd party then they better have a good price point. The Wii was so cheap that everyone could pick one up. $200 is much easier to handle for a Nintendo only machine than $400 is.

False. You could argue they had the most powerful system a number of times. Or at least very comparable. They have clearly changed. I will never get why people try to act like they have always been this way.

GTFO with this. I'm simply pointing out that Nintendo even as strictly a vidya company is not in dire straits and can afford to take risks and follow their own creative vision.

Outside of SNES, when? NES when they revived the entire market singlehandedly, and making any console whatsoever was considered a foolish losing venture? And Sega Master System was STILL more powerful?

I dont even know what you're angling at for the 3rd one to be

64 and gamecube were top of the line bro. Not pulling up specs because I am busy at work but they were.

Stop posting your opinion off as fact. An opinion that almost nobody here would agree with.

Xbox blew GC out of the water. PS's third party support blew N64 out of the water. There is nothing new under the sun

And SNES came out several years after Genesis... they're part of the same generation.

I'm sorry I just don't buy this idea that if you could play Witcher, Far Cry and NBA 2k16 on Wii U then suddenly it would be awesome. Nintendo's strength is its franchises. Criticism toward them should be focused on not devoloping those franchises enough. If you don't care about their franchises, you're not going to switch to Nintendo just because it's another bland indistinguishable console
