Yea, I just got the game yesterday. I have barely gotten into it and decided to free roam when one of those bitches came out of the blue and killed my horse. It was my Stallion from the mission with Bonnie. Pissed me off.

in between Thieves Landing and McFarland Ranch

i just walked out of some cabin, and a bison bumrushed me...i put a couple shotgun shells into it and skinned it

then as soon as i jumped on my horse, a pack of cougars came out of nowhere and killed my horse...i was able to kill them all. but then i was stuck in the middle of nowhere at night with no horse. i was scared.

How far along in the game are you? Have you made it to Mexico? Are the bridges messed up going to the plains?

In most of Rockstar games like Grand Theft Auto the next area is off limits until you complete some story missions unlocking them. Then the bridges will be back to normal.

There is a tanner's shack up in Tall Trees that spawns a steady stream of mountain lions in free roam. I dunno if single player is the same, but I had to fight off hordes of those frickers in multiplayer.

Hunting bears is the hardest. I've been using the high power pistol with Dead Eye to kill them. If a bear mauls you once, you're dead. They maul you again while you're still on the ground recovering.
