This is super disappointing. Colin was by far their best host and PS I love you is my favorite podcast.

If you didn't hear, last week Colin made a joke on twitter teasing National Women's Day and there was a huge backlash from other games journalists and Greg Miller put out a statement about how he and the other KFG co-founders didn't support his tweet. They basically threw him under the bus for a completely inoffensive joke and most people think that accelerated his decision to leave.

I use Kinda Funny as my go to for gaming podcasts. Pretty sad to see this as the group had so much chemistry with each other.

Just sad.

He was on their live podcast joking around in the background, so I think they are still cool. As much as I disagree with the backlash, Miller had to put out that statement. It's hard to be a conservative in the gaming world, and Colin was good at trolling the fanbase. From his Facebook post, this was going to happen eventually since Colin was more interested in history and politics. The twitter backlash was just a motivator for it to happen.

quote:

It’s with a heavy heart and great sadness that I announce my resignation from Kinda Funny, effective immediately.

This morning, the guys and I had a constructive conversation, and feel that, with our separate visions for the future and for the direction of the company, it’s time to go our separate ways. I want to be clear that this was my decision. Just as we collaborated as friends, so too do we part. I hope you continue to support them. I simply want to reconnect with what’s most important to me. Politics, history, philosophy. Reading books. Talking about things I feel are most impactful and essential for a person like me.

I want to thank everyone for their support of me -- and us -- over these years. When I started writing about games professionally in 2002 as a freshman in college, never, ever, did I think I’d reach the heights I did. I owe a great deal to an audience that generously sustained me, supported me, and followed me, and I also owe a lot to those who gave me opportunities to begin with. I will always remember and be grateful for this entire experience.

Opportunities are already popping up for me, bringing me in a new, different, and exciting direction, a direction that I feel makes perfect sense for me. Obviously, you haven’t seen or heard the last of me. Far from it. I hope that when I return with what’s next, you will support me there, just as you’ve supported me over these many years.

Your Friend, -Colin

Sucks to see him go. As far as breaking down the goings on in the gaming industry, he was the kingpin at KFG. Not sure who is going to fill those shoes.

Colin was certainly the odd man out in that group. He has social anxiety issues and rarely participated in public events like PAX. If you follow his twitter, this move makes perfect sense for him.

Him and Miller set gaming journalism back in the 00's.

This is disappointing. Colin was basically the only reason I watched Kinda Funny's Youtube channel or listened to their podcast.

As I've seen others point out, no one else (currently) on their staff is particularly insightful or entertaining enough to hold my attention. If they make a good hire to replace Colin, I'll give them a shot but I can't see myself returning for just Greg.

the reviews themselves meaning the words put on paper, i like and trust miller. i always ignored his number scores, but he's a good reviewer IMO.

i still prefer the late 90s and early 00s ign and gamespot reviews where they just tell you what the game is, and talk about it in not really a scripted way. when i started reading ign, they were just brutal so if it crossed the 8.5, it was a must buy. nowadays, it's the aggregate of reviews and ign just really carries no weight with me, but none of them do really.
