I'm at about 21k "bought" but I haven't paid for anything in awhile and it has been awhile since I did all the tap joy things as well

with as little as I play CoC now I regret spending all that money although at the time I was playing hours a day every day

I spent like $30 on CoC, I would say it was worth it because I played that game for a year solid.
I've spent $40 on Castle Clash, $20 initially, and then another $20 after I had a month into it. I have a dummy account on my phone I haven't spent any money on and as a result I don't have any legendaries and I can say I'm very satisfied with the advantages Legendary heroes give you that I rolled with extra gems.

yeah i feel the same way
i don't raid but once or twice a day now

if it were a sure thing to get legendary heroes with gems I would buy them, but it would piss me off if I spent $20 and didn't get shite for it

See the thing about CoC though is you spent that money to upgrade Xbows so you'll have better defense while you don't play.
CoC has gotten to the point I check it once a day, I mean I just finished upgrading archers to level 6. Over that 14 day period I probably played 7 times. The upgrades are so insanely long the only reason I play it now is because I've got a year of time into it.
Castle Clash has dungeons, blue portal, attacking and arena so you it's not just 1 raid and log off and wait, you can continually play it. Buying gems on Castle Clash can get you better heroes with better special abilities so you can more effectively raid, run dungeons, and defend your base so spending the money helps improve your gameplay, having a level 3 Xbow doesn't help your raiding it just saved you 10 days of waiting.

Yeah, that part is really a crap shoot, but the way I figure it. I'm spending gems until I get legendaries, so even if I don't get any with that 3300, I was going to spend 3300 anyways I just sped up the process of me eventually getting the hero I want.
My first $20 I got a succubus, did tapjoy stuff and got an additional 3k in gems and got a druid, 2nd 20 I struck out, but then when we got that 500 gem bonus I got a thunder god. I've had about 12k gems so far.

My base has come to a screeching halt, I update like 1 thing every couple of weeks since I hardly play. My xbows are still lvl 2 and just getting around to wizard towers to dark purple
