I somehow completely missed the Starfield exclusivity. I always knew a Switch was inevitable. Anything other Xbox exclusives worth picking up?

for a company that portrays itself as "anti-exclusivity", they sure have made it clear how they really feel about it over the past few years.

Build a PC if you must play Starfield. No point in owning an Xbox. PC for Gamepass, PS5 for Console gaming

While I completely agree with this, building a pc isn't something that's done flippantly in terms of money

During the MS/ABK court hearing against the FTC, testimony revealed that one of Microsoft's concerns and reasons for the purchase of Bethesda was that MS caught wind that Sony was working to make Starfield exclusive.

MS executives testified under oath that they would prefer no games were exclusive, but since Sony is the dominant member of the market they have to approach these things the way Sony approaches them if they want to compete.

Sony is the king of exclusivity going way back beyond games.

On surface level you're right, but I think things even out a lot more than most realize when you start factoring in game sales in addition to performance gains relative to how often you have to upgrade.

Game sales happen very frequently with extremely high percentage sales on Steam by itself, which console stores don't have near as frequent sales or as good of prices usually.

As for upgrading, consoles are basically all or nothing whereas PCs are not. A solid rig that outperforms or at least evenly competes with consoles is probably only a little more expensive and the game sales would make up the rest if I had to guess.

Obviously I don't have numbers on hand though

True. In regards to games though...it's Nintendo.

Nintendo, hands down.

Ask anyone who developed for an 8 bit console in the heyday of the NES in the US.

I enjoyed this game. It was pretty easy but I had fun playing it...especially with headphones on.

It may not be on game pass but it’s 100% going to be on PC. AMD is bundling starfield with their CPUs for sale. An Xbox or game pass is not required to play.

I wouldnt buy the switch just yet, mario comes out in November? And they are coming out with a new nintendo next year.

I would just wait for the new one, or hope a price drop for the switch comes with a new release.

because then youll be buying the new nintendo for mario rpg 2.

2023 Microsoft wants nothing more than non-exclusive games. But they can't do it because of Sony and to a lesser degree Nintendo(different audience). Microsoft makes their money through licensing sales and subscriptions. They can't make money if people aren't interested in their games, and the more platforms that they are on the more subscriptions and fees they earn. Microsoft wants game pass on Playstation, they've tried but Sony refuses. So Microsoft's plan is to counter pressure Sony by forcing them to pay licensing fees one way or the other if they want Microsoft owned games on their platform. Microsoft is using their monetary empire to bully sony into doing what Microsoft wants. At the end of the day it's scummy what Microsoft is doing, but at the same time Sony is the one that's actually being more anti consumer.

I really have no idea why Sony doesn't allow Gamepass on Playstation. It would effectively kill Xbox in the console gaming space. Xbox would basically just be a subscription service at that point.

Why doesn't Microsoft just buy Sony and Nintendo and own the entire space? Then they can do whatever they want.
