I was browsing the PlayStation store yesterday and came across a trailer for this game. I had never even heard of it but it caught my attention.

Has anyone played? For those that have, would you recommend it?

I played it on PC. The framerate was atrocious on moderately powerful hardware

Are there custom servers or access to custom servers on PS4?

My biggest problem with Ark on PC was the time needed to play the game. Some of the biggest dinosaurs took a few hours to tame. Running around keeping it fed and knocked out for that long bored the frick out of me. The game was too much of a time sink for me.

Played on a server that reduced that time by a lot, was the only way to play it, but kinda ruined the game because you could get everything so quickly.

My son had to have it so I let him buy it with his own money. Pretty cool game but fairly buggy and outside of that first weekend he hasn't put much time into it.

Looks like an awesome concept and game, but I'm not eager to jump into something that time consuming, especially if it is buggy.

Think I will wait for Horizon to start riding dinosaurs

It's pretty meh. Super unoptimized.

I struggle putting up 60 frames reliably with a GTX 1080.

So I put an absolutely absurd amount of hours in to this game that I am not proud about

It runs okay. There are some loading issues, especially if you build some massive structures. People's games would freeze for a good few seconds if they flew over my tribes base.

The official servers are an absolute grind. Materials take a long time to gather, especially without dino's. Taming high level good dino's can take incredibly long. Then once you've grinded for all of these things someone can come wipe it all away while you are offline. Most of the official servers on XBOX for example are dead now because one tribe becomes alpha and just ruins it for everyone else. I wouldn't suggest joining one unless it is PvE or if you have a lot of time and a tribe to play with.

Now being in a small tribe with the sole goal trolling the frick out of the big ones can be pretty fun, but making any sort of progress in the game is basically impossible.

My suggestion would be to look for a PvP server with increased rates, play on the extinction servers which have increased rates but are wiped every so often so no one stays alpha, or once you've grasped the game there is survival of the fittest.
