Anyone done this? I'm fairly decent with this type of stuff and have made sure I have the correct drive/laser
Just got change the motherboard off of old drive to new one to ensure it will actually read disks and be "married" to the motherboard, or at least that's my understanding
Any tips? Wish me luck!

If it's one thing I've learned from fixing several consumer electronics myself - it's never as easy as it is in the YouTube video.
They tape, glue, screw, and stick everything down so it won't do exactly what you're trying to do to it. Takes a lotttt of patience

Never done a PS4 specifically, but the drive will probably have some spring loaded screws that act as suspension. Tighten those all the way down while counting the number of revolutions it takes to snug them up before removing them. That way, you can adjust the new drive to those settings.

Already removed the old drive and it was pretty straightforward, no screws like you describe but that may be bc I'm not doing anything internally with the drive.
It's very similar to replacing the CD drive in a computer, old out new in. Swap over the boards then reconnect ribbons
That said this will probably end in disaster for me and instead of saving me $60 will cost me $180

Well I managed to make the change and everything works just fine, with a little patience and the right tools just about anyone could do the job
